My friend wants to become an Oracle DBA can you computer savay people tell me what classes she should take?
Re: Oracle DBA
If the choice is between the courses mentioned on the website you linked to, I would say she should do the OCA (DBA track) first, if she doesn't have any Oracle experience yet. That means:
Option 1:
1Z0-042 - Oracle: Database 10g Administration I
Option 2:
1Z0-001 - Introduction to Oracle SQL and PL/SQL AND
1Z0-031 - Oracle 9i Database: Fundamentals (I have thought these ones myself a few years ago.)
If she has some Oracle experience she could go for the OCP (DBA track) directly otherwise complete the OCA (DBA track) first. And that would include the following courses:
Option 1:
1Z0-043 - Oracle: Database 10g Administration II
Option 2:
1Z0-032 - Oracle: Database 9i Database: Fundamentals II AND
1Z0-033 - Oracle 9i Database: Performance and Tuning
Personally I would recommend Option 1 because most companies have upgraded to 10g already.

Re: Oracle DBA
^^ i can pass you the oracle documents which are needed to pass the exams. I am certified OCP.
Re: Oracle DBA
So if you took courses to pass the exam and got certified, did you get a job immediately afterwards or did you need to do some sort of internship?
I'm a bit doubtful of these certification programs....can they really get you a job
Re: Oracle DBA
no they dont. Its only gud when u have little experience

Re: Oracle DBA
^chameli, i'm just wondering, what kind of educational background does your friend have?
I have a BS degree in a different field other than computer science and it has good job opportunities but I was also thinking of doing one of these certification programs that interests me, just to spice up the old resume.

She has a BS as well. She really likes working with computers, so I recomended this field to her. From the data I have seen this is a really good field, good money!!

I mean in what field does she have a BS deg. is it anything related to engineering or completely unrelated?

She has a degree in business amin.
Re: Oracle DBA
My sister has a degree in Biology and she took oracle courses and got her certification. Unfortunatley, she never found a job. Now she is working as a teacher and feels that all her effort was wasted. Remember grass is always greener on the other side, so be careful.
If your friend is serious about changing fields and has passion for computers, I would strongly recommend that she should try hard to get a job in an IT department or an IT firm. The job does not need to be in IT field although that will help more. The idea is to create connection and network so that when she does finishes her IT training, she will have a better chance of transfering into the new role.
If she has a degree in Bus Adm, she should look into becoming a Business Analyst or Project Manager in IT. Those position are more alingned with her education and chances of finding a success/job will be higher.
Good Luck,
