What are some options to get to Washington D.C from NYC/NJ besides driving myself. Any good buses or trains?
Re: Options to get from NYC/NJ to Washington D.C
Amtrak to Union Station, DC.
Re: Options to get from NYC/NJ to Washington D.C
anything cheaper? Has anyone taken these "chinatown" buses?
Re: Options to get from NYC/NJ to Washington D.C
wasnt there hound buses or something like that i remember kinda
Re: Options to get from NYC/NJ to Washington D.C
Amtrak or JetBlue are the best and safe options. I think you can find China Town buses as well. Provided you know where to find them in NYC/NJ
Re: Options to get from NYC/NJ to Washington D.C
Ive heard Chinatown buses are pretty good. If all you care about is price then take the bus it's about $20-25 roundtrip I think. It takes about 7-8 hours to get from NYC to DC. If you plan to take it make sure u get there early otherwise they will start filling up the bus with people without tickets.
Also the ticket is nonrefundable and you MUST bringyour ticket with you to the bus.

Amtrak trains and Greyhound buses .
I think someone mentioned Bolt buses too which were $10 but i'm not so sure about those
I've taken the Chinatown buses. They are extremely cheap and drop off in pretty central/convenient locations in the cities but the buses are not what you would call luxury shuttles. They are dingy inside, and the drivers are often crazy-aggressive drivers so the very weak of heart might not do well. But you can't beat them for the price and there are several companies serving Chinatown with buses leaving every 1-2 hours during the day.

NYC Gori - how long to they take to get to d.c?
and are they non stop meaning they don't stop anywhere else.
Thanks
It's been awhile for me, but yes, I believe it was non-stop, and the time was the standard driving time bt nyc and dc, which I think is about 3.5 hours...
Re: Options to get from NYC/NJ to Washington D.C
I recently heard about Acela Amtrak train which is supposed to be faster train service than other Amtrak trains and they have quite cabins/lounges and laptop power supply outlets. I intend to try it myself if there is ever a chance.
Re: Options to get from NYC/NJ to Washington D.C
Acela = $$$. Unless my company is forking the money for my travel, it's too expensive. I rather just drive.
I love the acela for business travel, but agree that it's too pricey if you're paying for it yourself... Last time I went I think roundtrip was 217 dollars.
I'd take the Amtrak
Re: Options to get from NYC/NJ to Washington D.C
I would definitely second (or third, or fourth!) the chinatown buses! I used to live in DC. I'm now in Philadelphia, but I travel to NYC and DC often (especially lately, getting my visas for my upcoming trip!). From Philly, it's $20 r/t to NYC and $28 r/t to DC. I think NYC to DC is around $35. It is by far the cheapest option. It is also by far the least comfortable option! Sit up front, and you'll be subjected to the often-crazy drivers yelling into their bluetooth headsets for the duration of the ride, and it also gets worrisome when you see just how close they tailgate cars in front of them. Sit in the back, and you'll be bounced around and get occasional whiffs of the lavatory (it's BYO TP, by the way!) for a thoroughly nauseating trip! Still, you can't beat the pickup and dropoff locations, and the frequency of the buses is good as well. The most legit company is New Century, and this is who I use now that Apex seems to have gone out of business. www . 2000coach . com
Amtraks are nice but I only use these when I need to travel at odd hours, as the chinatown buses don't run 24/7. They are way more expensive but also comfortable, and most if not all have a cafe car.
Bolt bus and Mega bus are two new options here in Philly, but I have not tried either yet. Reports are good - they are cheap and clean AND safe - however I don't like the fact that you have to book your times in advance. I like traveling on my own schedule, and not worrying about rushing to a bus station by a particular time!
Re: Options to get from NYC/NJ to Washington D.C
I took the Tripper bus service. It was $25 one way nonstop to D.C. It left outside Penn Station. The only other stop was Georgetown. you could purchase a ticket in advance or get it on the bus.
It took about 4 hours. (He took 95 staright down)
The bus was clean. It had free wifi and plug for the chargers. The wireless coneection was good enough to use VPN.
Driver was very courteous and drove safely.
I have to try the Chinatown buses next time.
