Oprah, The New Voice for Islamophobia in America

You could always apologise for your remarks of course, and then I might have to answer your modified questions. It's up to you.

Read the book and nobody came to Mrs Mahood's aid although they all heard her cries of help. I wonder why this doesn't bother u and tell u something about the state of affair and the way women are treated. You are more worried about white washing the truth instead of facing it.

When women will be treated equally and will have same rights and previleages as as their male counterparts in all muslim countries .. i will take back my remarks.

Till then u can hide behind your gross jokes....

Why only worried about muslim countries Rani?

Are you saying that sex discrimination doesn't occur in non-muslim societies?

Rani, you should be ashamed at your level of ignorence. Study Islam, then comment on it. You are believing everything that the media gives u. Its like u have not brain of your own. You believe all this BS because u want to and you dont want to listen to anything else. You are what we call a ‘parha likha jahil’.

You totally have no clue about what you are talking about.

U are just blabering. U pretend to be a scholar about something u know nothing about. I know a bit about Islam. I live here in the west where women are ‘free’. Free to do stupid things like dressing (or not dressing) for the genral public so that anyone who sees them has an instance desire to have sex. Women here are not women but mear objects. The do not have names but they have number such as 36-24-26. Where the most looked upon women are the least dressed ones. Where they need an excuse to wear small clothes. I mean in spring, the day they forecast maybe 10C so many girls come up in mini-mini-mini-skrits. There is a saying, the temperature is inversly proportional to the length of the skirt. There is no decency left.

Islam remove all that. Women are GIVEN rights. They are told not to degrade themselves. They are looked upon with respect. Where you HAVE to respect your mother.

The biggest ‘liberator’ of women here was the PILL so they could now display as well as use their bodies to please the man with out results. No wonder AIDS is so popular here.

Imagine a world where women are judged by their abilities. I mean who remembers Marie Curie here. Its all about Pamela Anderson or Jennifer Lopez or Britney Spears.

Its amazing how people dont see this. The are blinded by the ‘freedom’. Gilrs here are not free. They have to follow the croud. rent their bodies. I mean this is heaven for men. They are never judged by their looks. Who remembers any man for their looks. It was all about what they did. But for women, nooo…

This is an example. Read and weep u all. In this ‘free’ society the 15 year old girl says: **
You’ve got to have breasts to be successful,
Jenna Franklin
**

So much for this stupid ‘freedom’. It makes me puke. Imagine a guy saying the he needs a bigger pns to be sucessful!
Ha! who are u trying to convince!

Jenna Franklin: considering breast implants at 15

A mother today defended her decision to offer her teenage daughter a breast enlargement operation for her 16th birthday.
Critics have condemned the decision and said it could lead to psychological problems in the future.

Kay Franklin, 40, who has herself had two breast implant operations, said she did not want her 15-year-old daughter Jenna to have any “hang-ups” about the way she looked.

I just want to be happy with my body

Jenna Franklin
Mrs Franklin, from Warsop Vale, near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, and her husband Martin who run their own plastic surgery business, said they would pay for the £3,250 operation.

But Jenna is insisting it is her decision alone to have the operation.

Mrs Franklin said: "I want her to feel confident about the way she looks, and if that means having breast implants then so be it.

“If Jenna was suitable at 16, and the surgeon feels it is suitable then she has our consent and we would agree to pay for it to be done.”

Consultation

Jenna is set to have a consultation after her birthday on August 23, when it will be decided what size of silicon implant is suitable.

Jenna: Wants to be happy with her body

Mrs Franklin told the Daily Express: “There are so many young girls who are depressed or bothered about the way they look. If you can do something about it, that’s great.”

But she added that the operation would not go ahead if the surgeons decided Jenna was not physically ready.

Jenna said she had asked her parents to buy her the breast enlargement as a 16th birthday present - and that she had been thinking of having implants since she was 12.

Jenna Franklin
She made up her mind when she was 14 that she wanted her 34A breast enlarged to size 34 C or D.

"You’ve got to have breasts to be successful. Every other person you see on television has had implants.

“I used to pray my boobs would grow. Then I just thought, what’s the point when I can have implants when I want?”

‘I just want to be happy’

“I just want to be happy with my body and I think having my breasts enlarged will give me more self-confidence.”

Kay Franklin runs a plastic surgery business

She did, however, admit that her parents’ business had influenced her decision.

"I have grown up with plastic surgery because both my parents are in the business so I don’t see any problem with it.

“My parents are not being irresponsible - it’s not for anyone else to criticise the decision I have made.”

Jenna, who has a boyfriend, Matthew, said to be, supportive of her decision, hopes one day to become a plastic surgeon herself, so she can continue the family business.

Mr and Mrs Franklin have two other children - Bjorn, 13, and Jordan, 11.

They have run their own company, Grosvenor House offering cosmetic surgery ranging from breast enlargement to facelifts, from home for more than two years.

Mr Franklin said: “Kay and myself have both been in the industry for a number of years so all our children have grown up with plastic surgery. They don’t see anything wrong with it and neither do we.”

Criticisms

Ruth Coppard: “Emotional consequences”

Health specialists and politicians have condemned the family’s plan, saying the operation could leave Jenna psychologically damaged.

They said cosmetic surgery was a dangerous way to resolve teenage anxieties.

Ruth Coppard, a child psychologist form Sheffield, warned Jenna could be storing up problems for the future if the operation goes ahead.

“Emotionally, she is at risk by making a decision now when she’s a child that will have long term repercussions that she can’t consider yet, she hasn’t got the perspective.”

every man has a sister, daughter, mother or wife. thus if i were to say “my sister”, it doesnt mean that i have possesion over her, it means that she is from my family. from my common linkage. thus if were were to apply this to ALL of “your” women, it would apply to all women, since each one is related to a man one way or another.

u shouldn take ancestors in the literal sense (not u cat-woman, the other guy who commented on it). we are influenced day by day by the western media, western civilization, and western thought. the feminist movement originated in the West, not in a chinese village, nor in an indian basti, nor in a bedouin tribe. it is this influence that is pulling thousands of pple away from their religion and/or culture. thus, they are the “ancestors” of those individuals within our pple that are pulling us to be liberated.

why, arent I liberated by just reading the Shahadah?

Really..so u think locking up women depriving them of equal rights will make them very respectable. Only men know how to use power properly and should be given all the power again. Very interesting point of view. Fortunately under democracy nobody can behave this way.

Islam remove all that. Women are GIVEN rights. They are told not to degrade themselves. They are looked upon with respect. Where you HAVE to respect your mother.

How is giving equal rights to all is degrading. All societies respect their mothers, what is new about that, infact it is somewhat self serving families cannot function without mothers. When u respect all women equally and give them equal rights that is what is called civilized not just respecting your mother.

**The biggest 'liberator' of women here was the PILL so they could now display as well as use their bodies to please the man with out results. No wonder AIDS is so popular here.

So are you telling me only men should have all the freedom and they should control the women and dictate to them how to behave. Societies can only provide its members with education rest is for the people to decide what is good for them.

I guess only person weeping is u because u have to live in the country that doesn't follow your rules and keep women locked up.

So much for this stupid 'freedom'. It makes me puke. Imagine a guy saying the he needs a bigger p*n*s to be sucessful!
Ha! who are u trying to convince!

Really, u will rather keep all the powers with u because u are the only wise one.

Let me tell u that cosmetic surgery is rampant among young Iranian women they love to get their faces fixed despite all the control and male dominated society, they are very insecure. I bet u want to weep now and go to Iran to lock them up.

*Rain: I love your abusive language..what do u call people like yourself who cannot discuss anything without being abusive. *

When someone keeps on saying something that is baseless it hits quite a few nerves. The 'abusive' languages relates to the level of discofort your abusive comments cause. The only difference is that u are not direct it to me but 1400 years of my civilization. You imply things that are done to people like my mother and sister and other muslim girls. What u say inolves 1 billion people. What i say involves only u. Again I tell you that your views about islam are wrong but you refuse to give anyone any slack. You will stick to your views for no reason but to dis muslims and their belives...

*Rani: Really..so u think locking up women depriving them of equal rights will make them very respectable. Only men know how to use power properly and should be given all the power again. Very interesting point of view. Fortunately under democracy nobody can behave this way.
*

My mother and sister are not locked up. Now talking islamicly, The prophet's wife Ayesha (ra) took part and was the leader of an army. His first wife Khadija (ra) was a business women.

What you see being done to women is not Islamic but it is cultural. Culture is flawed but for muslims Islam is not flawed. It is true that in some societies of Pakistan, women can not answer telephone calls. But this is not Islamic. They are not allowed to go shopping alone. This is not islamic. In Saudia Arabia they are not allowed to drive but this is not Islamic.

The problems in some pakistani societies is that the restrictions on women are a result of Hindu traditions and cultures.

But for you, rani, its just about islam bashing. It give you pleasure. What can I say. All that I can say is that study islam before judgeing it. Many american women (especially black) convert. They are not stupid. Cat Stevens, a famous singer in the 70's converted to Islam, said: "I am glad that I met Islam before i met the Muslims". Though we (muslims) are responsible for portraying Islam, at this point in time we are not portraying it correctily. Please dont judge Islam by its Muslims. Study Islam! I assure u that u will not be dissapointed. If you want I have a CD called Alim, it contains translations of Quran as well as a LOT of Islamic texts that are searchable. You will be amazed. I can mail u a copy of the cd if u want.

It is true that my abusive language was not appropriate but you cant expect a person to stand while u shoot at their belives. I hope that u will study Islam and judge it for yourself and not judge it by the muslims or by the media. Please use the brain that God gave you. Make your own decisions, dont let others make them for you or restrict your feild of vision.

Wow! The only thing clear here is that you guys all like to argue alot?! What did you guys think of my suggestion? Scroll waaay back.. cause all this 'discussion' leads no where.

And for the record being the true believer I am I still have to admit Rani does have a point about those things she listed (even though I'm not sure what her intentions in some posts at gupshup are).

I don't think it's of any use to argue whether the east is better then the west etc. ,..or to point out the negatives in either.

The fact is those points she listed are more fact then rumour. At least admit this is happening and that it is wrong.

Rani it's not Islam that tells people to do all those terrible things it is however unfortunately what they (people doing them) like to use to justify their very twisted actions.

Given this yeah Oprah's conclusion was very foolish and wrong but can you really blame her for thinking that way? The only 'muslims' who ever speak up are the bad ones! No one would ever believe all the negative things said about Islam if there were not so many of our 'own people' doing them in the first place.

If you can not change it, get over it already!

i guess thats because the 'good ones' dont! they dont let their voices be heard...
What good are we doing by arguing about this and going around in circles?
How many of u, who find Oprah's comments prejudiced and offensive, have actually taken the trouble of going to her website and e-mailing her?

There's no point in just sitting in front of a computer and complaining about something....problems dont resolve themselves.
