ISLAMABAD: Opposition parties on Saturday voiced serious concerns over the preliminary results of the national census, questioning the authenticity of the figures released by the statistics division.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which did not conduct a census in the five years it was in power, had been quite vocal in its criticism of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for delaying the enumeration exercise beyond 2016.

However, following the release of the provisional census results, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah called the numbers into question.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the PPP leader demanded that the data collected by the statistics division and the Pakistan Army should be compared to get a true picture.

He claimed that the government had treated the enumeration exercise as a mere formality, adding that no one was satisfied with the way the census was conducted.

Veteran PPP leader Nawab Yusuf Talpur accused the authorities of releasing the wrong figures under a preconceived plan. He alleged that the results had been doctored, adding that the population of Sindh had been deliberately reduced by at least 10 million, while the population of Punjab was overestimated by 10 million.

He said that giving 50pc per cent representation to Punjab in the reconstituted Council of Common Interests (CCI) was part of the same conspiracy.

Describing the preliminary results of the census as an attempt to usurp the rights of Sindh, he called on his party to convene a provincial multiparty conference to discuss the matter.

PPP Senator Aijaz Dhamra also rejected the preliminary results, pointing out that the populations of Karachi and Lahore — the provincial capitals of Sindh and Punjab — had not shown major differences, which was not possible.

Awami National Party (ANP) leader Bushra Gohar also expressed her dissatisfaction with the census results. “There were nearly 2 million registered IDPs from North Waziristan alone. How can Fata’s population be just 5 million? Fudged figures?” she tweeted on Saturday.

Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) Senator Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah told Dawn if the provinces had objected to the exercise during the CCI meeting, it would have been reflected somewhere.

“I did not see any such report,” he remarked, calling on the Sindh government to brief lawmakers on the results that had been shared with them.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) MNA Murad Saeed also appeared thrown off by the provisional results announced. Taking to Twitter to voice his concerns, he said that according to the census results, there had been a 57pc increase in the population since 1998.

“For policy formulation, we were working with population growth projections of 2.05pc, census revealed it is 2.4pc,” he tweeted.

PTI Senator Shibli Faraz also seemed dissatisfied by the entire exercise, saying it had been conducted in a shabby and non-transparent manner.

In a related development, the Senate Finance Committee will meet on Aug 29 for a detailed briefing on the preliminary results of census from the statistics division.

What is total seat number of opposition parties ? Something like 70 vs. 200 plus of ruling. Why the fuk would some one care what some less than nothing little guys in pop has to say.

Instead of using Punjabi language, why don’t you comment on this? Is there anything wrong with this demand?

So two govts didn’t perform their duties of performing census and now that this is done the minions question. Sorry don’t have time to give rejected people. Busy in working. Can’t re do things. Go win vote get seats and thanwe will talk. Great work pmln for getting this done after 1998 when again they did it. It seems the rest can’t do anything. And I will speak language of Punjab because we are feeding you insects. I hope we makes kalabagj dam, stop with being too passive.

I think that these insects are biting your arse. What can be expected from you as you support proven Punjabi dakoos as declared by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Why would some one believe in such government who supports lutere and dakoos?

It is surprising that most political parties and leaders based in sindh are rejecting the census results.Between 1998-2017 the average annual growth in sindh has been 2.41 where as in punjab its been lower at 2.13.Still some people fear sindhs numbers have been shown less than reality.

What you believe or you dont believe means nothing! In the end its votes or its Martial Law. The same SC that gave in to Lawyers protest and restored License of Multan bar council president? Dont jump to conclusion, this SC is now so much in mud, its just time that this stupid decision will become history. I sure see a urban Sind province coming and loot of backward minded Sindhi wadera group done hence trying to reject census but here is a news for you, wont do any thing.

Yeah a party with largest public base and support, highest representation, a party that is finally able to get Baluch / Pushtun nationalists on table is pathetic. Well hey whatever floats your boat, time to care about what minions think is over. Time to answer is through vote and that you will see my friend in NA 120, in 2018 and in a massive public movement that is just starting. PMLN gave Pakistan all of its first and it will give Pakistan true Civilian ruling or it will expose establishment enough for them to come out and impose martial law.

It is not only Sindh, other provinces have also shown their concerns.

^^ Throughout Census Provinces were given Briefing. Their was time for complaints as well which si passed. So no this is not protest this is typical BS that losers do after they couldnt do any thing. Census is over, its final. Like it or not, accept it or not. This is final. The reason for PPP cry is this, now MQM have legitimate right to ask for more as Urban sindh is growing. MQM is not happy as they thought they will get even more. Punjab that has lost here from 56% to 53%, is NOT protesting. One party works and others simply dont. 2008 PPP should have done Survey, they didnt, 2002 Q league could have done, they didnt. PMLN did it in 1998 and now.

Again, time of complaints is over. Like it or not, accept it or not, this is the census and this will determine new NA seats as well as NFC awards. Punjab will lose 9 NA seats (PMLN loss), Karachi will gain Seats MQM advantage/ PPP loss, KPK will gain seats in Hazara (PMLN advantage / others loss), this is how it works. Accept it or shut up, these are two choices these parties have.

Do you want to explain here what their concerns are.If with even high population growth revealed by 2017 census they think their numbers have been shown less than we as a nation must be breeding at astonishing rate.

[RIGHT]پاکستانی قوم کی بدقسمتی کا اندازہ اس بات سے لگایا جاسکتا ہے کہ یہاں مردم شماری جیسے اہم آئینی ٹاسک کو متنازعہ بنا کر رکھ دیا گیا۔ پچھلے 19 سال سے اس میں رکاوٹیں کھڑی کی جاتی رہیں اور پھر جب سپریم کورٹ نے حکومت کو ڈنڈا دے کر مردم شماری کروانے پر مجبور کیا تو اب تینوں چھوٹے صوبوں کی جماعتوں نے اس کے نتائج ماننے سے انکار کردیا ہے۔ انکار کی وجہ یہ بتائی جارہی ہے کہ ان کے شہر یا صوبوں کی آبادی کم دکھائی گئی ہے جس سے ان کے صوبوں کو وسائل میں حصہ کم ملے گا۔سب سے زیادہ تکلیف ایم کیو ایم اور پیپلزپارٹی کو ہوئی ہے۔ ایم کیو ایم کے نزدیک کراچی کی آبادی میں پچھلے 19 سال میں صرف 59 فیصد اضافہ ہوا اور وہ 1 کروڑ 49 لاکھ ہوگئی جبکہ لاہور کی آبادی میں میں 116 فیصد اضافہ ہوا اور وہ 1 کروڑ 16 لاکھ ہوگئی۔پیپلزپارٹی کا مؤقف یہ ہے کہ سندھ صوبے کی آبادی اس سے کہیں زیادہ ہے جو کہ مردم شماری میں دکھائی گئی اور یوں ’ سندھیوں کو ان کے حق سے محروم رکھنے کی سازش کرلی گئی 'تیسرے نمبر پر جس قابل ذکر جماعت نے نتائج مسترد کئے ہیں وہ جماعت اسلامی ہے۔ جماعت کے کراچی کے امیر نے کراچی کی آبادی کو کم ماننے سے انکار کردیا جب کہ سراج الحق کے خیال میں دیر اور فاٹا کے علاقے کے لوگوں کے اوسطاً 15 بچے ہوتے ہیں، پھر بھی ان کی آبادی کم دکھائی گئی۔ایم کیو ایم والوں کو شاید علم نہیں کہ جب مشرف اور زرداری دور میں ہر روز کراچی میں اوسطاً 20 افراد کی ٹارگٹ کلنگ ہورہی تھی اور کاروباری افراد سے روزانہ ایک ارب روپیہ بھتہ وصول کیا جارہا تھا، اس وقت سے کراچی کے لوگوں نے پنجاب، بالخصوص لاہور نقل مکانی کا سلسلہ شروع کردیا تھا۔ اگر کراچی کی آبادی میں آپ کی مرضی کے مطابق اضافہ نہیں ہوا تو اس کی وجہ کوئی اور نہیں بلکہ ایم کیو ایم کی اپنی دہشتگردی ہے جس نے عوام کو کراچی چھوڑنے پر مجبور کردیا اور لاہور کی آبادی بڑھا دی۔پیپلزپارٹی کو کیسے لگا کہ سندھ کی آبادی بہت بڑھ چکی ہوگی؟ یہ وہی سندھ ہے جہاں پچھلے 10 سال میں تھر کے علاقے میں نومولود بچے پیدائش کے 3 سال کے اندر اندر غذائی قلت کا شکار ہو کر اللہ کو پیارے ہوتے آئے ہیں۔ سندھ کے ہاریوں کو پینے کے پانی کی سہولت میسر نہیں، نتیجہ یہ نکلا کہ 98 فیصد ہاریوں کو یپاٹائٹس جیسی بیماریاں ہیں اور ان میں جوان عمر میں اموات کی شرح خطرناک حد تک بڑھ چکی ہے۔ ایک طرف تو پیپلزپارٹی کے وڈیرے اپنے ہی عوام کو غذائی قلت اور بیماریوں کا شکار کرکے مار ڈالتے رہے اور دوسری طرح وہ یہ توقع کریں کہ سندھ کی آبادی بڑھتی جاتی ۔ ۔ ۔ یہ کیسے ممکن ہے؟اب آجائیں لالے سراج پر۔ سراج لالے کا کہنا ہے کہ فاٹا اور دیر کے علاقوں میں 15، 15 بچے پیدا ہوتے ہیں اس لئے ان کی آبادی زیادہ ہونی چاہیئے تھی۔ سراج الحق صاحب، نظریاتی طور پر آپ تحریک طالبان کو جب شہید اور مجاہد قرار دیا کرتے تھے تو اس وقت ان کی دہشتگردی اپنے عروج پر ہوا کرتی تھی ۔ ۔ ۔ اسی دہشتگردی کی وجہ سے علاقہ غیر سمیت کے پی کے سے بہت سے لوگ پنجاب شفٹ ہوچکے تھے۔ آج بھی اگر آپ لاہور کے کسی بھی بازار یا ہاسپٹل چلے جائیں، آپ کو اکثریت ان پٹھانوں کی نظر آئے گی جو حالیہ دس برسوں میں پنجاب منقل ہوئے۔رہی بات آپ کے علاقے دیر کی، تو آبادی چاھے جتنی مرضی ہو، آپ کی مہربانی سے وہاں کی عورتوں کو ابھی تک ووٹ ڈالنے کا حق تو مل نہیں سکا، آپ نے آبادی زیادہ دکھا کر کیا کرلینا ہے جب آپ انہیں ووٹ ہی نہ ڈالنے دیں؟آپ کو داد دینا ہوگی پنجابیوں کے اعلی ظرف کی۔ پنجاب کے تین صوبے بنانے کی بات کی جاتی ہے، پنجاب کے وسائل شئیر کرنے کی بات کی جاتی ہے، پنجاب کی طرف نقل مکانی ہوتی ہے لیکن مجال ہے پنجابی کبھی اسے اپنے خلاف سازش کا نام دیں۔ جتنا ظرف پنجابیوں کا ہے، کراچی یا دوسرے صوبوں کا اس سے بھی آدھا بھی ہوتا تو آج پاکستان کے مسائل حل ہوچکے ہوتے۔ہم کیسی بدقسمت قوم ہیں کہ بجائے مردم شماری کے نتائج کی روشنی میں ازسر نو اپنی پالیسیاں ترتیب دینا شروع کریں، ہم نے اسے بھی سیاسی طور پر متنازعہ بنانا شروع کردیا۔جو سیاستدان مردم شماری کے نتائج کو متنازعہ بنائے، اس کی مذمت کریں، چاھے وہ عمران خان ہی کیوں نہ ہو، کیونکہ یہ ملکی بقا کا مسئلہ ہے!!! بقلم خود باباکوڈا[/RIGHT]

Now the objection is useless as these parties did not object the census process when it was going on and now they are making ridiculous objections over the census result. The accurate data will help you to move forward in right direction.

I believe BABA coda has never been to karachi … if the assmuption is beleived than almost 26 percent of KHI population increase shifted to lahore.
That is apporx 1.4 Million ppl moving to Lahore ??? Possible … PPl. from lahore can confirm it.

Majority of IDPs are moved to the TRIBAL areas of karachi like sohrab goth. One can see huge population growth in these areas.

Ppl from Interior sindh moved to karachi. If you go to gulistan-e- jauher area you will find huge sindhi speaking population that recently moved to khi. Similarly most of the shops in nearby malls are owned by ppl from interior sindh who moved recently to karachi.

There is huge influx of ppl from sariki belt mostly labour class and rikshaw drivers. U find find most of the waiters working in small restaurants or riksahw drivers on sall routes from sariki area.
