Hi All Guppies,
I’m getting married exactly one month from today. Since I’m here in US so my Rokay kee rasam wasn’t done. I’m going 4-5 days before the wedding. So my in-laws want to do rokay kee rasam and engagement ceremony together because of the time. It wont be the “Real Engagment Ceremony”, again the time factor. Just some close family members from my side and my Fiance’s side. I was thinking of this dress for this event. It’s kind of anarkali but not really because of the top part. I’ve been thinking this pinkish/mauvish color and the red one for design. I like the red one better than pinkish/mauvish but since I’ll be wearing Red on the Baraat, so I don’t wanna wear Red just few days before the wedding. What u guys think???

Jab haan ho jaty hai dono taraf say, toh shagun k tor par susraal walay larki/larkay ko paisay daytay hain. this is called rokay kee rasam. dadi/dada k zamanay mein iss rasam k baad larka/larki aik doosray say nahi mil saktay thay par ab mil saktay hain. Rokay kee rasam mangni say pahlay hoti hai.

I've never heard of a "rokay ki rasam" in Pakistani culture - however I do have hindu/sikh friends and they have a "roka ceremony". Here's a blurb on what the roka ceremony is about:
Roka Ceremony
Roka ceremony is performed on a mutually convenient date backed by 'shubh muhurat'. This is a simple function, which is attended by family members and close friends. There is normally an exchange of gifts and cash. After this roka ceremony, the girl and the boy are considered engaged to each other and are also allowed to court. Roka Ceremony
Roka ceremony is basically carried out to secure the commitment of both the parties. It is a small function involving the family members and close relatives of both the prospective bride and groom. The families involved exchange gifts, sweets, fruits and dry fruits. (Source: Wedding.Iloveindia.com)
So to answer your question, since the rasam is sort of like an engagement, without necessarily exchanging rings and less formal - I'd wear a semi-formal outfit - nothing too OTT.

It's not "shub muhurat" thing. Not a Hindu thing @ all. All friends, family, neighborhood do this rasam b4 engagement. Big No to Hindu Rasams.
Sehrysh, usually rokna and engagement are two different occasions. But as i mentioned above, I'll be there like 3-4 days max before the wedding. So my susral walay planned to do both together. The outfit I decided is not too heavy nor of light work. I'm unable to figure out how to upload the images. I saved that dress for jahaiz suit. but now I've combined 2 designs together.

hi firstly congrats
i had the same rasam 1 month prior to my engagement i wore a simple shalwar kameez with light makeup it just had a bit of kaam on the neckline and dupatta...
because it is 4-5 days before your wedding i think you should wear something simple not too OTT so save it for the mehndi and big day etc...
