I want your expert opinions regarding an A line shirt with a lehnga as the first day outfit…would it look good? I have seen gowns with lehngas, but I guess I haven’t seen any A line shirt with a lehnga as a barat outfit, so what do you think about this combination? and I want to go for bright red base with golden kaam on it…if anyone can share any picture, that would be great. I plan to have shirt as the heaviest piece, then the dupatta and the lehnga would have work only on the border, as the rest of it won’t be visible.
And yes, I’m quite tall, 5’7 that is, and plan to wear a 3 inches heel as well, so considering my height, please advise me if clothes of above mentioned style would suit me?
Re: Opinion needed: Long A-Line shirt with a lehnga
Thanks for the prompt replies...:)
Since we were taking ideas from pashwaz and lehngas and changing them into long a line shirts with simple lehngas in our imagination, I needed pictures to be sure if it would work. Visited Ali's Zari, Zardozi, Think Pink in Liberty and Barkat Ali Sari Waaley at Mall Road, Lahore so far. Would visit Anarkali today, but don't know any specific shop...:( and the above mentioned shops were more than willing to make anything we order, but didn't have anything ready in the style we wanted.
And yes, I'm thankful to the guppans for mentioning these shops in their posts, because this is how I've got to know that these shops exist.
Can anyone please tell me how wide is the ghaira of an a line shirt supposed to be?
Re: Opinion needed: Long A-Line shirt with a lehnga
if its going to be a-line, then make sure its fitted well from the top half of your body, esp around the waist. otherwise, it can look a bit maternity when paired with the gheyr of the lehenga. also make sure your fabric has good drape.
this is what i wore recently- it was an a-line shirt with a lot of gheyr with an a-line lehenga under. i got this made from Jabeen’s in Karachi. the shop you go to should be able to guide you.
Re: Opinion needed: Long A-Line shirt with a lehnga
ok...thanks again! But I'd prefer a shirt which is not front open, as I've never felt comfortable in such a shirt.
I saw the picture of a bridal dress by Mehdi in the magazine Me and My Wedding, it was in green color, and it has got the look that I want. If anyone can post a picture, it would be great! And the other option is that I'd go and buy the magazine so that I can show that look to the shop I'd be ordering my lehnga at.
And a piece of information for all the guppans who might be interested: the shops like Zardozi and Ali's Zari in Lahore are willing to make this style of bridal lehnga in 50k, and they quoted this price themselves, i.e. without any bargaining. I believe this price to be great because I had heard that these shops are very expensive, and one can't buy a good lehnga from Zardozi for less than 1 lac and all.
Re: Opinion needed: Long A-Line shirt with a lehnga
yeah mine was 26,000, so 50k for a bridal in that style sounds about right.
mine was pinned all the way from the inside so it wouldn't open up- you can get a fake front open shirt where its actually all sown so when you sit down, get up, it doesn't part, if thats what your concerned about.

cool m ... would you mind telling us what styles are currently available in the shops you listed (zardosi, think pink etc....) .... I will need to buy my dress off the rack in nov as well since I wont have time for a customized outfit. I'm sure there are others like me around who would appreciate the info.
thanks for whatever info you can share.
Re: Opinion needed: Long A-Line shirt with a lehnga
Thanks girls!
I've finally selected a design at Ali's Bridal Gallery, Liberty, Lahore and placed the order as well, Alhamdulillah :)
Now need one more suggestion, the shopkeeper suggested to go for a 32 inches wide ghaira, do you think it would be fine? Plus, I'm 5'7 as I mentioned earlier too, so I'm going for a 48 inches long shirt and as I've been suggested, I'd go for a good fitting at the waist. Sleeves would be 18 inches long. Do you think all this sounds fine?
And yes, I'll be going to give them the size tomorrow noon, so please give me the suggestions as soon as possible. Thank you. :)
And I'll give a detailed review of all the places I've visited inshaAllah :)

is it a farshi gharara? how long is your shirt- mid calf, knee length, etc? i've seen ajars with long shirts and they look fantastic too. an ajar is basically a gharara but unlike the gharara, there is not "gote" anywhere, at the knee or midcalf. its just really wide legged pants. is there no sample in the store you could try on? that really would be the only way to tell what would look good on you, to be honest.

No, its going to be a lehnga with a long a line shirt. The shirt's length is mid calf. And no, they didn't have anything ready, not even a single piece in this style.
And does that mean that an ajar is like a sharara? Because a sharara also has two 'legs' but no gote, I was shown one at Barkat Ali. By the way, they have really nice sari's, very elegant, and the price range was like 14-20,000 pkr for those that had got comparatively less 'kaam' on them. I liked one a lot and couldn't find anything similar anywhere else, so I guess I'll go back and buy that one, inshaAllah :)
So I guess, I'll just have to pray that it looks good on me, tried my sister's a line shirt yesterday that also has a 32 inches wide ghaira, and my Ammi said it looked good, so I hope and pray that the bridal dress also looks good on me, Amen.
