Operation in Waziristan

It's very simple !

American army instead of fighting the taliban in Afghanistan is just sitting in the camps distributing arms to Afghan army which is not organised/reliable at all. A lot of these arms end up in the hands of Afghani/Pakistani taliban eventually. Things would be much different if American forces were able to control Afghanistan after 9 years of occupation.

Our army is fighting these talibans head on inspite of heavy casualty they are facing on daily basis. Their task has become much more difficult because Pakistani taliban are getting regular supplies via Afghanistan due to lack of control there.

Instead of regular advice to Pakistanis in an open Paksitani forum you will use your historical and technical expertise much more effectively if you start posting in an open American forum advising them to control Afghanistan by suggesting the American army to come out of their camps and fight these talibans themselves instead of relying on Afghanistan army. You should not forget to advise them on ratios and numbers... as they are as important in Afghanistan as they are in Paksitan !!!

^^ Yazdi sahab you can not change mentality of Pakistan haters overnight, save your breath.

In one post the dude denies the fact you stated about USA arming Afghanis by saying, "Why would USA give arms to Afghanis"?

And in the next post he says:

"Of Course Americans give Arms to Afghan Army, they are building it up".

LOL.

One can accuse Americans for whatever, but it will be a gross mistake to accuse American army's role in Afghanistan with respect to Pak.

Paks should stop and think a war-101 question without relying on any of the constipated conspiracy theories.

What if we switched side for a moment? And reverse the situation a bit.

What if an Afghani terrorist is sitting on the other side of the border with SWA was issuing daily threats to Pak army, and openly supporting anti-Pak insurgency, how would our generals react to it.

Will they send garlands to this warlord on the other side of Pak-Af border?

We had a series of dimwit terrorist leaders from Maha-sood area And that be-ghairat Soofi and his illegitimate son-in-law be-ghairat Mullah raidwa. Show me one such terrorists on Aghan side who has openly defied Pak army?

All the terrorist scum is in OUR area. And who should clean up our area? Pak army or American army?

It is high time we go beyond petty bickering a la Pak TV rags style and see the reality.

I apologize. I thought people were smart enough to pick up what I said without further clarification.

Why would give USA arms to Afghans - Afghan Taliban which is different than Afghan Army.

Elsewhere in the northwest, officials said a suspected U.S. missile strike has killed at least 14 people.
Two army and one intelligence official said Saturday the military has taken the town of Kotkai in South Waziristan after days of fighting.
They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media.
Kotkai is strategically important because it lies on the way to the major militant base of Sararogha. It’s also the hometown of Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud.
Government official Mohammad Jamil said the missile strike hit the Bajur, a tribal region farther north.

Hope to end this operation soon with much success and with least bloodshed and human sufferings.

ISLAMABAD – Pakistani forces killed two dozen militants in 24 hours and were closing in on a prominent insurgent stronghold in the mountains of South Waziristan, the army said Friday.
Government soldiers now control the hills above the village of Sararogha, where Taliban leaders long have operated openly, officials said in a statement. The army said during the advance two Pakistani soldiers were killed in a militant mortar attack and three were injured in a bombing.
The Pakistani military launched a ground offensive earlier this month in the rugged, desolate tribally controlled region of South Waziristan, where the Pakistani Taliban are based and are believed to shelter al-Qaida fighters.
The army has deployed about 30,000 troops to take on some 5,000 to 8,000 militants, a top general said Thursday during a rare visit to the battle area by journalists. His estimate included up to 1,500 foreign fighters, most of them Uzbeks. Afghan fighters are also reportedly filtering in across the border.
A total of 299 militants and 34 government soldiers have been killed in the offensive, according to a tally of army figures. Six more militants have been arrested.
Access to South Waziristan is heavily restricted, so independently verifying death tolls from fighting is all but impossible.

DAWN.COM | Pakistan | Sararogha secured; 21 militants killed

To our jawans and officers! Salam tum pay aiy rah-e-haq kay shahido. Salam tum per.

ISLAMABAD: Security forces achieved a major success in their operation in South Waziristan on Tuesday by taking control of Sararogha, the operational nerve centre of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Military spokesman Maj-Gen Athar Abbas told Dawn that troops had entered Sararogha and were carrying out a search and clearance operation.

The troops faced fierce resistance in their advance towards Sararogha after having taken Kotkai, the hometown of TTP Chief Hakimullah Mehsud.

Sararogha has been the venue of TTP shura meetings and press conferences held by its leaders. It is close to the settled areas of Bannu and Lakki Marwat.

Gen Abbas said the dislodging of the TTP from its operational base would lead to a quick disintegration of the organisation. Although the TTP was claiming that it was a ‘tactical withdrawal’, he said, its capability of carrying out organised attacks and striking back had weakened to a great extent.

An official said that security forces’ ability to carry out effective surveillance and monitoring of militants’ movement at night had played a major role in the success.

He said effectively targeted attacks had caused heavy casualties behind the front. These casualties are not in the count officially announced by the forces.

According to ISPR, 21 militants were killed and two suspects apprehended in South Waziristan on Monday and Tuesday.

One soldier died and two others were injured in clashes.

In the search and clearance operation in Kaniguram, troops found arms and ammunition in different compounds. They are now advancing to adjoining ridges.

Terrorists fired six rockets on Kaniguram.

Troops have also started clearing Ghani Khel and adjoining areas and have killed five terrorists.

On the Razmak-Makin axis, the Cheena village and areas up to Mian Nur Khel and south of Manza Sar have been secured.

Militants attacked a checkpoint near Razmak with small arms and fired two rockets.

A soldier was injured near Chashmai bridge while defusing a landmine.

In Swat, 21 suspects were apprehended and 10 terrorists surrendered. Two SMGs with ammunition, a pistol and five grenades were seized in Cham.

Two uniforms of the Special Services Group, camouflage jackets, machine-guns, rifles, grenades and Russian IEDs were found in the Peochar area.

Pakistani forces enter major Taliban base - Yahoo! News

By Augustine Anthony Augustine Anthony – 2 hrs 24 mins ago

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) – Pakistani soldiers have entered an important militant bastion in South Waziristan, security officials said on Friday, as gunmen wounded an army brigadier and his driver in a drive-by shooting in the capital.

The army went on the offensive in South Waziristan, a lawless ethnic Pashtun region on the Afghan border, on October 17 aiming to root out Pakistani Taliban militants behind a wave of violence in urban areas.

The offensive is closely watched by the United States and other powers embroiled in neighboring Afghanistan, as South Waziristan’s rugged landscape of barren mountains and hidden ravines has become a global center of Islamist militancy.

Soldiers have been advancing into the militant heartland from three directions and had entered the militant-held village of Makeen, military and intelligence officials said.

“We have not seen much resistance as we entered Makeen,” said a senior military official in the region who declined to be identified. “Our troops are now clearing mines and IEDs (improvised explosive devices) and moving forward.”

An intelligence agency official said seven militants had been killed in clashes in Makeen, where Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud was killed in an attack by a U.S. missile-firing drone aircraft in early August.

Military spokesmen were not available for comment.

There was no independent verification of the report as journalists are not allowed into the area except on an occasional trip chaperoned by the military.

STOCKS DOWN

Foreign al Qaeda fighters are believed to be hiding in South Waziristan along with thousands of Pakistani insurgents. As the army squeezes militants out of their strongholds they have retaliated with bomb attacks and shootings in urban areas.

In the latest such attack, gunmen opened fire on a vehicle in Islamabad, wounding a brigadier and his driver. Dawn television said the brigadier worked for a military intelligence agency.

A brigadier and his driver were killed in a similar shooting on October 22. Days later gunmen opened fire at a military vehicle but the occupants escaped unharmed.

The violence has unsettled trade on Pakistan’s stock market and the main index was 1.54 percent lower at 8,971.59 when the bourse closed for a midday break.

“Ahead of the long weekend, investors are very cautious because of political uncertainty and security fears,” said Mohammed Sohail, chief executive at Topline Securities. “Nobody wants to take any risks.”

Monday is a public holiday in Pakistan.

Separately, police killed two militants in a clash after they refused to stop their vehicle at a checkpoint in the town of Mansehra, 90 km (56 miles) north of Islamabad.

Two policemen were wounded. Police recovered bomb-laden jackets normally used by suicide bombers, along with detonators and explosives, said senior police official Waqar Ahmed.
