Opening Problem Solved?

I think it is good idea to keep both Imran Farhat and Muhammad Hafeez as an opener. Atleast they should have a chance to score big innings. In my opinion, we should stick with them. What about yours? Imran Farhat is somewhat great player who played well, along with Muhammad Hafeez. If we stick with them, they can become experienced and learn how to play long innings. Am I right?

Re: Opening Problem Solved?

You are from Islamabad? Wow, I also lived there. Where? I lived in E-9. It is not far to F-10. I love this city with lots of greenary involved.

Re: Opening Problem Solved?

One test with 2 50s and opening problem solved haath jharing... please, don't make him a good player ("great" would be injustice with the word itself when used with Imran Farhat). Don't forget that this is "home" crowd, batting pitch and bowlers are Mashallah se WIndians.

Just for the sake of "justice" yeah we should stick with these two openers for sometime but not because of what he has done in this Test.

Re: Opening Problem Solved?

SuperMe, as soon as I see a thread started by you during or after matches......only thing I can reply with is

TOO EARLY!

Yes too early to say the problem is resovled. However I agree to give this pair the whole WI series run including all the ODIs. They need adjustment and understanding. BTW, Imran Farhat is not 'somewhat great player' as you are saying. He is just another Salman and Taufeeq who is happening to be in 'better' touch these days, as they were some two years ago. Salman, Farhat, Hafeez, Taufeeq and Nazir, all belong to same tribe. They all love flirting with outside offstump.
But since all others are not in good touch, Farhat and Hafeez are doing reasonably well, so let them play atleast 15 matches together. After all Salman showed his failed Butt for a whole year before he was sacked, so why not Hafeez and Farhat.

Re: Opening Problem Solved?

The way Farhat played today was great. He left the balls outside the off stump when the Windies were constantly feeding him deliveries there. However, he has to do this consistently before we can say that at least one of our opening problem has been solved. At the moment I will agree with Smooth guy that it is too early to say anything.

Re: Opening Problem Solved?

Personally, I will go with Farhat and Yasir and give them a long run. Farhat got the potential, he did before and if he is allowed a long stint he can prove more useful. At same time, he should be used for bowling too. He is a good utility bowler.

I am suggesting Yasir in tests, because for test an opener or player should have the temperament for long innings and I think Yasir Hameed do posses it. Plus right and left combination will work best.

Similarly, Pak shouldn't rely too much on alrounders in the test matches. I think Malik (after his bowling action remodification, and without doosra) is more of a batsman, and to me he is good even just as a batsman for his temperament, talent, age and excellent fielding.

Pakistan should use Faisal Iqbal as backup for Inzi, Yousaf and Younis; Hafeez as back up for openers and Malik, and play following team, with following 3 extras in 14.

  1. Yasir
  2. Farhat
  3. Younis
  4. Yousaf
  5. Inzi
  6. Malik
  7. Akmal 8 & 9. M. Sami/Sami Niazi/Naved ul Hassan/S. Nazir/ Shabir/Asif (select 3 in 14 squad)
  8. Gul
  9. Kaneria
  10. one from above bowlers (listed against 8 and 9).
  11. Faisal Iqbal
  12. Hafeez.

On Pakistani flat wickets, or as Jeffry Dujon said "roads", with Inzi negative mind set, one should not expect anything less than 100 for first wicket from openers, and I think lack of Hafeez temperament and technique didn't make it happen.

Re: Opening Problem Solved?

Yaar multan faisalabad ki pitch par to may bhee 30 mar looN. Farhat is good yeah but too fickle. His every shot is a 50/50 choka or dhoka.

Re: Opening Problem Solved?

It is not even close to comparing apples and oranges. We are not on the same wavelength.

Re: Opening Problem Solved?

A good opener is judged on how he plays overseas. Farhat is incompetent and the England tour proves as such. It is amazing that he is still here. He deserves the credit for recent inngs but when you put him in front of SA or Aussies bowlers, he is done in no time.

Yasir Hameed and Hafeez can make a good opening pair and we should let Salman Butt have some time off so that he can revive his career.

Re: Opening Problem Solved?

I do not care whoever is this. But we should stick with openers so that they can get improved.

Re: Opening Problem Solved?

the day our openers give us a decent opening stand in aus/sa pitches, we can assume that we have good openers....

on these falt pitches, even yasir hameed got 2 hundreds on his debut match.... :p

Re: Opening Problem Solved?

Yes you are right. It is not just Farhat but few others who are like him.

Re: Opening Problem Solved?

Opening Problem Solved? Far from it. In fact, the opening problem just got more severe, thanks to Farhat's runs in the Multan Test. He was likely on the verge of being dropped, but now he's booked his place for at least a year or so.
