Hmm.. salim elahi IS actually a very good batsman. He averages better than Younis Khan, Taufeeq umar etc. And scoring two centuries is not the easiest task in the world.
In the few series before the world cup he was our only batsman who was performing well.
Saleem Elahi's record suggest he is a decent batsman. Though I hate his batting, his stance is so awkward but the truth is he does actaully have a decent one day record. An average if 36 is not bad at all. Compared to that he has failed miserably in test cricket. He has played 13 Test's and average's 18.95.
As far as sheer talent is concerned I think Imran Nazir, Imran Farhat, Taufeeq Umar are more talented but it probably would have been a good idea to include him in the squad for experience. I didnt really understand his exclusion after the WC squad anyway. I know he wasnt a superstar their but neither was Taufeeq Umar. Elahi's performance in the prevuious tournaments was better then Taufeeq's. Well the bottom line is whoever Mr. Sohail and General Sahib like will end up in the squad the rest can go to hell.
He made century on debut against SL in 1995.
His 2nd and 3rd centuries came back to back against Zimbabwe in November and his 4th century came against South Africa.
Anyways, he is a very inconsistent player as well.
