Opening a bank account in the UK whilst on a visit visa

Is it possible to open a bank account at any of the main UK banks when here on a visit visa? What is required and what accounts are available?

Also, if it is not possible, what other means are there for parents to send money to you?

I don't think it is possible to open an account while on a visit. They can send money to you via western union I guess.
