It depends , u havent given any specifics about her height or physique .
I think it depends on how u wear the clothing rather than it wearing you ... some brides can pull off teh most shocking colour combos n look stunning and others just cant.
Hmm she's 5ft 5 tall and weighs about 160. I was shocked about her weight because she doesn't look that much! She has a pretty flat tummy so her problem area are her hips.
I don't really know what type of lengha will look best on her (im new to all this) so I thought I'd ask in here
I think a long shirt lehenga will look really elegant specially with her height M.A. Does she want to emphasize her shape or cover it?fishtail if she wants to emphasize it a bit.. n open shirt with contrasting colours is also a good idea and can work to cover the hips by making the pop of colour the focal point.
Open shirt kaamez can be long aswell.. I've seen brides wear two three layers of diff length with an open kameez.
What colours does she like? Pastels or deep rich colours? I’m a sucker for navy and emerald green Take that as a starting point or if she’s completely clueless then see what compliments her skin tone.
Go thru the bridal pics thread , does she prefer the contemporary bridals or a bunto"tradtional" red bridal appeals to her?
After you get the colours sorted, then move on to different types of kaam etc and the lehenga idea she wants will naturally fall into place. and then when brides go shopping they end up falling in love with outfits they never imagines wearing for some reason or another.
Thank you for the info! That's helped immensely.
She has a womanly body that she's proud of but I recall her saying that she wants to wear something that will flatter her figure and not make her look wider than she actually is.
That's why she's wondering if one type of kameez (long shirt vs long open shirt) is more flattering? In my opinion I don't think it'll make a difference really, but she wanted to know.
She's showed me lots and lots of pictures of dresses she likes and wants to wear. For first day she's looking to wear red and plum and then on second day she's decided on light colours - tea pink and pistachio green - which is in apparently! She has designs etc in mind but is very confused on the type of kameez she should wear.
So what about long open shirt on one day and on the other day just a long kameez? It wont impact on her figure too much, will it? I've told her it won't make much of a difference on how she looks but she's worried for some reason
outside of the cut, the fabric and fit are also very important. she should definitely go for flowy fabrics that drape well and the shirt, long or short, should be fitted well so that there aren't any baggy/saggy bits anywhere.
I heard coral and orange was in 2012-2013 bridal palette
SGC is right cut and fit are important, though most brides are going for chiffon with maybe velvet borders. I think she should do long shirt - front open one day and maybe a gown style on barat.
The front open could be a layer on top of another kameez , like peach overlaying the red which is only till the empire waist. I’ll pm u the link so u get what I mean. by keeping the kameez peach she cold go for a stunning red dopes & gharara which really enhances everything.
I think it’s more of her being worried as a bride to be , rather than a case of not understanding. So assure her, go bridal dress shopping with her (doesnt matter if she buys anything) just let her wear different ghararas , and see how she responds to them. When she sees a style she feels gorgeous in I’m sure it will boost her confidence & help her to make a decision.
^ no, she's right, it actually creates a visually slimming effect.
like, for example, when you colour block- you could have black pants with white panels on the outside. the black will draw your eye to only the dark part of the pants making your legs look much slimmer than all-black pants. i think kaam on the sides (and Karma are the ones who made this trend popular a few years ago) does the same thing.
also, if your friend wants to smooth out her curves for a sleeker silhouette, she should definitely look into proper under-support garments. spanx does several amazing styles that just clean things up nicely so your outfit drapes much better. and they're comfortable!
i also agree with majesty re: gharara. they're very, very elegant- much more than lehengas, imho- something about the cut, drape and shape- i have yet to see a bride of any figure that doesn't look wonderful in a gharara!
I think your right, she's probably feeling a little self conscious about how she'll look, more than anything. Love the spanx idea - never even thought of it!
Thanks a lot for the tips, I'll be sure to give her all of them :)
