Re: Open letter to the PTIans of GS
I’ll be the devil’s advocate here.
Such (online) behavior is a product of two phenomenon:
-
MQM and PTI have the largest number of online supporters. The support base of PML(N) and PPP either do not have much access to online services or they have much better things to do than indulge in online bickering.
-
MQM and PTI are the two most criticized parties in Pakistan. A reaction is natural.
Online ‘journalists’, bloggers, opinion piece writers, etc. have realized that while criticizing MQM can land them into trouble, criticizing IK will get you most clicks. Controversy sells.
For GS, I would say the opposite. PTI supporters here are the only group that admit IK’s mistakes and idiotic statements. Everyone openly admits that his stance regarding terrorism is flawed. PML(N) has more or less similar stance. None of their supporters would ever admit it and no armchair journalists criticized them as they do when it comes to IK.
Another recent example is here:
http://www.paklinks.com/gs/pakistan-affairs/643073-ik-to-dissolve-kpk-assembly-and-join-pat-all-during-the-nwa-operation.html
No one defended his stupid statement about dissolving KPK assembly.
PTI has clearly said they are not joining PAT, tribune is the only paper that has (mis)reported and the title of the thread is misleading. Even then, PTI supporters said they would not like this to happen.
Compare this with the fact that PPP leaders are actually going in person to meet TuQ and no one has written a word about it. Clearly, that wouldn’t get them clicks, eyeballs and ratings.
