Ontario's health care.

Dalton McGuinty believes your future’s at stake. And he thinks your wallet needs to hurt now to help your family later.

That’s what the Premier said Wednesday, less than 24 hours after unveiling his controversial tax raising financial plan for Ontario.

McGuinty insists health care has to be the number one priority for all Ontarians, and that no one can reasonably expect to get something for nothing. “This is not an easy budget,” he admits. “It is not the kind of budget that I expect will have the people of Ontario turning cartwheels in the streets … I’m challenging the people of Ontario to work together, so that we can improve the quality of our health care system.”

McGuinty claims you might not like paying the added tax – but your kids will like it even less, if his government doesn’t act.

“If we do nothing … by the year 2020, we’ll only have one ministry left in the province of Ontario. And that will be the Ministry of Health.”

The Grits have re-introduced health care premiums that could add up to $900 more on your tax bill, depending on how much you make. The money will come off your paycheque, beginning July 1st.

Don't we already pay high tax as it is?! and what if u dont have any kids? its not like i make as much in the first place, a broke student like me can't afford high tax :-(

am soo not voting for Liberals in federal elections!

Go Liberals GO

As far as my understanding goes, not everybody will have to pay it. Only those within a certain tax bracket (the ones who make more money) will have to dish out the money.

umm what’s so important about this?

No offense intended.

lolz i have no idea, i just thought this wud be something different to discuss here.

Whats so important?

Heck, we'll have to be paying more taxes. Therefore, the majority of us will be left with less disposable income. :(

just checked Alhamdulillah, I won't have to pay it since I make less than $20k/year.

This tax seems so unfair. I think we should be given the option of paying the lump sum amount or paying it per visit to the doctor. Many of us don't get sick often, so why should we be made to pay for others.

i dont make alot so i dont have to pay taxes, and it doesnt bother me! Yes when i get lil more richer, i probably wont even stay in canada , i would move back to pakistan and chillax :)

so liberal's can do whatever they feel like cuz its not hurting me :)

PS: oh yea..i think post secondary education should be free and university fees should be cheaper :p

  • Those earning under $20,000 will be exempt.

    • Those earning $20,000 to $36,000 will pay $300 a year.

    • Those earning $36,000 to $48,000 will pay $450.

    • Those earning $48,000 to $72,000 will pay $600.

    • Those earning $72,000 to $200,000 will pay $750.

    • Those earning more than $200,000 will pay $900.

thats the breakdown…it still matters cuz the distribution of the taxes isn’t even…its a bigger chunk out of the lower income groups compared to the ones who make more money… :nook:

You guys make me sick. You have money to buy a case of Molson Dry every week but don't have money to pay for health care!

its not about paying taxes. i think we all have been paying one of the highest tax among the developed countries for several decades now. but the point is the uneven division of taxes. people with lower income are paying more than the people with higher income.

furqan, do u think these tax raise will actually effect our education system in any way?

Its rediculous. Not the tax....nor the election promise that they broke...but the reason that they gave for breaking such HIGHLIGHTED promise during their compaign last year.

And the lame and stupidist reason is......."the budget deficit is far bigger than what we thought". A$$HOLES....what were you doing in parliments for last 4 years. Was it not your responsiblity as opposition to keep an eye on acts and spendings of the Hire's governtment. Ontarians were paying your salaries for that job. You probably were sleeping, that is why you are surprised to know the -ve figures in the treasurey.

I think its the time for immigrants (the huge supporters of Liberals) to rethink of their loyalty and go for NDP or Green party for change. Atleast we can record our protest this way. And yes, we can make a visible difference in Liberals vote bank in GTA.

^ true, lets give another party a chance now. Ontario's vote are important as it is since the majority of votes come from this part of the country.

I’ve always been a supporter of NDP. :snooty:

NDP :k:
