Agreed. Unless as PCG indicated they lost their wealth after marriage.

Even then, taking handouts from the government should be very frowned upon and its in this time that the muslim people should rally around this family to help them out - figure out WHY he lost his money and help him with employment, etc.

So many muslim men are afraid to go to their own communities for help. I once had to counsel an Arab guy on the phone who refused to go to a local mosque for help and wanted government help instead, because he claimed "those people don't do anything".

This is a big deal. In countries back home, muslims are used to people going homeless and suffering all the time. You get desensitized to it and don't bother to even help poor people around you because you get so accustomed to them (and other reasons like poverty mafias, etc). We move to western countries and we forget that we need to stick together and help one another out in their time of need. Mosques need to follow the original model of not just being a place to hold a congregational prayer but also serving as a community center to help members of the society. I always preach this, but no one listens.

We in the West support through our Taxes welfare Mothers with multiple children that these Mothers do not even know or care who their Fathers were.............is that Good for Society to raise children without any Father Figure?

Finally we agree on something. Though, legally speaking money coming in and out of ones household has to be accounted for. So this unemployment fills in the gap when employers look at your resume to determine what you did during that time, how did you survive. However this should not offset what part the community should play in such circumstances. Though such unemployment claims are necessary for getting certain needed (such as medical) benefits from the government.

the point has been made by several people on how one cant islamically marry again unless he is able to support the wife.

however, why is it that Muslims dont want shariah in this case? There is no concept of a "welfare check" in Islam. There is Zakat, but thats from money thats 2.5% of savings, certainly not the 30% 40% income tax that canadian govt takes. That whole tax and welfare system is not Islamic, and you want recognition of "Islamic marriages"?

Any welfare a Muslim should accept, if he wants shariah, should come from zakat. In Canada that means through the zakat given to masajid. Just to reinforce the fact that hes accepting charity, its not very Islamic to sit on your ass and marry lotsa women and expect the govt to take care of all of them.
