The successful candidate will be responsible for technical and user support, maintenance and deployment for OCAD’s email and digital information systems and databases including servers, remote and web access, security, programming, bandwidth shaping, software integration and support, compatibility issues, and research and planning for integration over OCAD’s wide area network.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working with Brock University Computing Services staff, OCAD IT Services staff, Teaching Faculty and students, lead roll out and implementation of student and Teaching Faculty email system
Ensure backup and retrieval of data for OCAD email systems and databases
Provide front-line Help Desk support for all students, staff and Teaching Faculty for OCAD email services
Ensure account management of all OCAD email services and other digital information systems
Publicize and provide instructional resources for use of OCAD digital information systems
Provide programming support and development for networked administrative and academic databases
Research integration of administrative and academic email systems and databases
Perform hardware and software deployment, maintenance, upgrades and provide general technical support for OCAD digital information systems and databases
Answer inquires and assist in one-on-one and/or group training of students, Teaching Faculty and staff for use of digital information systems
Support web access to students, Teaching Faculty and staff email systems and other digital information systems
Research, implement and maintain network security systems, virus protection protocols, bandwidth shaping technologies and digital information systems protocols
Research and install updates to digital information systems and databases
Assist the Director in the development of overall strategicinitiatives for expansion of digital information services and databases
Create support documentation and instructional material as required
Assist the Director in the development and enforcement of digital information acceptable use policies and determination of user access and security
Assist the Network Administrator with Intranet OCAD information sharing and communications and with the implementation and maintenance of remote access and VPN
Support the Director and Network Administrator in special projects and other related duties that contribute to the successful operation of the IT Services office
QUALIFICATIONS:
Post-secondary degree/diploma in computer science and/or two years’ related work experience
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Windows NT/2000 Server and client software, office applications, operating systems (Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP); Microsoft certification an asset
Demonstrated knowledge of Unix and Linux server configurations, Microsoft Exchange server software and Outlook email clients and account management, backup and retrieval
Demonstrate knowledge of databases programming and support
Demonstrated knowledge of configuration and operation of TCP/IP local area networks and maintenance
Demonstrated knowledge of network security systems, implementation, auditing and maintenance
Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to exercise discretion regarding sensitive or confidential issues
Demonstrated strength in customer service and knowledge of general office practices
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and multi-task and meet deadlines
Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday for a total of 35 hours per week.
COMPENSATION: $34,675 - $43,327 per annum, with an excellent benefits package.
