Haddin says one-off Twenty20 game no World Cup indicator

Australian acting captain Brad Haddin says Thursday night’s Twenty20 match against Pakistan will have little bearing on the team’s preparation for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup.
A large number of players named on Tuesday in Australia’s 15-man squad for the cup are expected to be included for Thursday night’s game in Dubai.
But Haddin said with the tournament still almost a month away and this match coming at the tail end of an intense stretch of cricket it was a chance for the team to have some fun.
“I don’t think it’s that important to do with our preparation,” Haddin said.
"After this game we’ve got a couple weeks to freshen up, we’ve been on the road a long time now, so we’ve got the opportunity now to have a break.
"I think we just take Thursday night for what it is.
“It’s going to be an exciting time in the new stadium here and I know the guys always look forward, whether it’s been a long tour or not, we always look forward to a bit of fun in a Twenty20 match.”
Haddin said there was a big difference in the way the side would prepare for the World Cup games compared to a one-off match such as Thursday night’s.
The squad in the United Arab Emirates had been picked mainly for the recently completed five-match one-day series and Haddin said it was a similar scenario most times Australia played a Twenty20 game overseas.
“The beauty of the World Cup is you can prepare for the World Cup, you’re going away and your No.1 focus is to win a Twenty20 tournament, you don’t have one-dayers in between or Tests and have it on the end of a tour,” he said.
After defeating Pakistan 3-2 in a hard-fought one-day series, Haddin said the Twenty20 game would also be very competitive.
“It’s been a great one-day series and Pakistan are one of those teams that have some very talented players and a few of those guys can win a game by themselves,” he said.
He nominated wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal, who scored a match-winning century in the last one-dayer and leg-spinning all-rounder Shahid Afridi, capable of having a quick impact with bat or ball, as danger men.

Re: Only T-20 International: Pakistan v Australia at Dubai - May 7, 2009

the way our team's been batting, kal ke match ka Allah hee Haafiz - barring another spectacular show by one or two batsmen...

I ardently hope I'm wrong though and our team performs like a well oiled machine with an intent to win - and inshaAllah that we win!

Re: Only T-20 International: Pakistan v Australia at Dubai - May 7, 2009

What are the changes in the Pakistan squad from the fifth ODI? Looks like they might play the same squad unless Afridi is out due to injury, in which case Fawad Alam comes in.
