Online vs face to face conversation

So how many of you are comfortable having face to face conversations, instead of sitting behind the screen. Now a days I see people are very comfortable having conversations behind the screen, no one really talks to each other, if I have to reach quickly to someone either I will text or I will post it on Facebook.

Is it a good thing or bad?

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

Face to face. Always prefer that. Always have. I don't like the whole chat thing. I prefer voice and webcam if I have to do it on line. Otherwise its phone.

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

I prefer face to face. That is not always possible, so then I would rather call (or skype/webcam, but I hardly use that). Last comes chat.

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

I hate skype and Facetime and any other form of videoconferencing. The idea that I actually need to comb my hair and remove the clay mud mask before sitting in front of the computer screen is too much work.

But if I had to choose between phone and IM'ing - phone any day.

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

Taking a 50 dollar bet that guys in general will prefer webcam/voice over chat.

Seems women need to doll up for webcams

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

^ Dolling up is part of it, but the other consideration is my inability to mask my true feelings about how ridiculous I think what the other person has said is. No webcam means that they don't see my constant rolling of my eyes :D

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

How do you mask your true feeelings in real life meetings?

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

Depends who with

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

With a lot of difficulty. Actually, 8 out of 10 of my meetings are conference calls and for the few live ones, I manage to restrain my exasperation.

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

I used to favor online conversation (texting and online conversations) but now I’m more into face to face meetings. I hate to admit it, but I’ve looked at myself and realized how much of a disservice I’ve done by constantly preferring non-face-to-face communication.

plus I think online/text convos can be so stilted sometimes and hard to move along…whereas in person, not so much.
Like, most ppl nowadays just stop replying to emails/texts/online conversations, and the expectation is that the other person knows you got busy…so I get that… but it can be a bummer if you’re enjoying the conversation and they suddenly stop. I don’t think that would happen in person.

Still hate talking on the phone though :bummer:

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

Always face to face.

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

Face to face.

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

I like face to face too.

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

I prefer in person face-to-face but not video face-to-face

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

Its highly dependant on whom I am speaking to.

Friends and general public then yeah face to face is a definate especailly when goods and services are in question. Ones less likely to rip me off on prices and theres a lot more room for levering deals and twisting out bargains.

When having to speak to people that I dont find myself on the best of terms with, its probably better for all parties to have some sort of screen between us.

Videos are a good way of keeping in touch with people you have not seen for a long time and with great distances involved. I do prefer them to old school tape recordings… In younger days I remember how we crowded round battered tape players listening to faraway relatives and friends. Today its good to be able to see distant relations rather than worry about appareances, since who can see tape people anyway?

Internet telephone is amazing too becuase its cheap and you can link systems and call several people at once and have a sort of conference on the go…

Overall though it depends a lot on the people and the situation… theres quite a few people who have never heard me speak, ever… and we lived in the same villages and towns, but I ussually got by with being a silent bob in the background… the sort of chap everyone knew but only called up when they “really” needed… like theres an invasion or some other disaster. :cb:

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

both:

one is more diplomatic in talking face to face...online, people tend to be more blunt. i keep a balance. i'm what i am...i do not mold my personality online...what you see me online that's what i'm offline! :)

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

all the face to face people are replying to UZ in a behind the screen manner. this is cheating. UZ post your address and phoon numbar, lets all do face to face replies.

Re: Online vs face to face conversation

Skype, cause then I am only obligated to wear a shirt.

Re: Online vs face to face conversation
