Ali was working extra hours between his full-time job and his side business. Life was back on track for Ali. He regularly talked to Lubna over the phone and sometimes chatted on the net. One day he was chatting with Lubna when all of a sudden she asked him who Hamyza was? Ali, all surprised, told her that she was a business acquaintance. Ali asked Lubna how come she was asking him about Hamyza. Lubna told him that Hamyza had just sent her a private message and was now chatting with her. She also asked him if he had met Hamyza in Bangkok, on his way to the US. He had never told Lubna about his meeting with Hamyza and was feeling very odd. He quickly logged to Lubna’s account and took control of her chat session. He immediately put Hamyza in the blocked list and logged out of Lubna’s account. Lubna wasn’t that technical about computers so she could not figure out what happened. Thinking that her connection was lost, she logged back in and started questioning Ali about Hamyza. He told her about his lunch meeting with Hamyza and explained her how he was friends with her through work for so many years. He went on clarifying about his relationship with Hamyza that it was nothing more than a casual friendship. Lubna somehow wasn’t satisfied and was hoping to chat with Hamyza again. She had no idea that Hamyza was on her block list neither she remembered her screen name so that she could approach her.
Ali sent some harsh messages to Hamyza and asked her what in the world she tried to do between him and his fiancée? She said that she was so much wanting him since her meeting with him and was hoping to break him up with Lubna. Ali was really surprised about the fact that she approached Lubna without knowing anything about her. He asked her how did she find Lubna’s screen name? She said that she was searching all the screen names associated with his email address and was able to find this one. Ali remembered that he had created this screen name for Lubna under his email account and then had given it to her along with the password. As this screen name sounded more like a female name so Hamyza added into her buddy list. As soon as she saw this buddy came online she said hello and found out it was Lubna. Ali was quite upset and expressed his anger out at her. She kept saying sorry while he logged off. Ali then called Lubna and neutralized the matter with her. He sent her some flowers the next day and gave her a pleasant surprise when a beautiful bouquet was delivered at her home with his name on it.
Ali had sometimes wondered why Lubna so many times mentioned to him that she had never been involved with anybody. She often told him that she had never liked any guy in her life even though her MS class was coeducation type. Ali had never asked about her past and found it a bit strange when she often voluntarily told him how she had never liked any guy. This left a big question for Ali to find out what was the complex or agenda behind it. It was July 2003 and Ali’s parents left for Pakistan to do preparation for his wedding. They had set the wedding to take place in August. While his parents were in Pakistan, they visited Lubna a couple of times. Ali’s parents called him up one day and shocked him with the news that they didn’t like Lubna that much. They asked Ali to think over his decision to marry Lubna. Ali got quite mad and told them how he had simply complied with their wish without having any love or choice for the girl. Ali also told them that he did not find it fair to break this engagement off unless there were some compelling reasons. They could not give him any solid grounds other than that they did not like her based on her physical attributes. Ali had grown above those material factors and did not believe in physical attributes anymore. He was determined to go ahead with the marriage.
Lubna called Ali one day being quite upset and told him how his father had gone to her home and insulted his parents for no reason. His father actually went to Lubna’s home and made some false accusation against Lubna and told her parents how he did not want this marriage to go through. Lubna’s parents did not say much and rather remained quiet. Her mother was actually younger sister of Ali’s dad. She probably did not respond to his elder brother out of mere respect. Lubna asked Ali, why did his dad do all that. This was a surprise for Ali and he assured her that he would get to the bottom of the matter. He asked her to remain calm while he was going to talk to his parents. Ali however talked to Lubna’s parents and apologized on his father’s behalf. In the mean time, he called his home and respectfully warned his dad not to repeat the incident again. He made it clear to his dad that he was determined to do this marriage. Wedding date was set towards the end of August and both sides started doing the final preparation. Ali had told Lubna’s parents that he did not want to accept any jahaiz in any form so they should have not worry about it. In fact he even told them that he was going to pick up the tab of the wedding cost.
Ali went to Pakistan a week before his wedding. He sensed some tense situation at home and found out that his parents were once again in denial of this marriage. When he called, Lubna, she told him how his dad went to her home a couple of days ago and repeated the same episode he had previously done. He told her parents how their daughter had trapped Ali into this marriage. They wanted to tell him to go to hell but they had really liked Ali and did not want to ruin the marriage of their daughter at the last minute. They were waiting for Ali to go to Pakistan and then bring it up to him. This time his parents were quite stubborn and had told him flat out that they were not for this marriage at all. Ali got very upset and told them he was not going to call this wedding off at no cost even if he had to go on his own. It was mehndi night at Ali’s home. All guests had arrived and Ali was in very bad mood. He started yelling at his parents how they had ruined his life before and he was not going to allow them to do the same thing once again. His father somehow understood him and realized how mad Ali had begun. He told Ali to calm down and assured him that they were going to do everything as planned.
