What I find surprising when I go on these websites are the number of pretty girls on there. Oddly enough, I’ve met some girlfriends through these sites, and made some new friends too. I’m just so SURPRISED. I think, well she’s hot, what is she doing on here??
What the hell has the rishta scene come to if pretty girls are looking for husbands online now???
This is why I advocate for more community organizations, etc, because it is so important for us, especially those living abroad, to have venues in which to meet people. There is something seriously wrong when pretty girls in a big metropolitan city have issues meeting a nice desi man.
And to all the men out there:
Clean yourselves up and lose some weight, will ya???
Attention: THIS is not a picture ANYONE should post of themselves. Get a haircut. Trim the mustache. Lose some weight. Wipe the oil off your face. BEFORE PUTTING a picture of yourself up online on a matrimonial site.

or maybe their expectations are way too high
and if the focus is just on being pretty, then maybe there are prettier girls who are hooking up with the guys that these girls are interested in.

X2, that’s why I shared my experience of running into these girls online. Some of these girls I already knew, and some of them I actually met through these websites (like if I found out they work nearby or in some similar field, etc), and some of THOSE I met in real life. I’m just SO SURPRISED. They are good looking, NICE, and achieving girls. They’re not someone who just woke up off the street and decided to get married. One of them, I’ve actually become good friends and we go out (odd right? We met on a matrimonial site. ). These are NOT ogres, at least not the ones I’ve met.
I’m just so SHOCKED. They all have the same argument. 1. They don’t know where to go to meet people - which is common in our economy as jobs take you places where you don’t know anyone and then in your adulthood, you have to try and make friends. and 2. They’re not finding men of similar educational/cultural background. I guess there are one too many high school diplomas managing gas stations out there.

Perfect example. Great on paper, and then when you look at him, you want to vomit.
what sites do you go on? and most good looking/ well educated desi guys, end up with non-desi girls (my opinion but not a fact) that's why we're left with slim pickins'
You dont know how they come across to guys or to families. There are people who are fantastic on their own and when things are going their way, but cant do so well in other settings.
PCG, I am sorry but I call BS on that argument, I lived on my own, in a new country and new city with no family, and even leaving behind the network I had built in undergrad, and had just a handful of desi friends, and in mid 90s I was able to meet enough women through common friends, family and even online that I never felt that there was a dearth of candidates.
so on 'the dont know where to go to meet people..its not a place that you go to, it is about building a network, meet people through people, build a network of people of similar cultural and educational background etc.
also, I keep going back to examples I have seen.. foir both guys and girls, living in the same city, going to the same uni, similar level of attractiveness, some have no problem finding anyone..and they did marry professional, decent looking guys or girls, others are still looking and give all the same reasons you just noted.
I am not shocked, what is shocking is why people in the same city and of same educational level have such different experiences.
There are many girls on GS who grew up here and are happily married, did they go for fat greasy faced high school diploma gas station attendants? … I dont think so

I actually think there is a bit of a problem here. I know quite a few very pretty, highly educated girls from good family backgrounds who are in their early 30s and single. It is so sad but it is almost a disadvantage being very educated and successful because the pool of men you can marry is so much smaller. You can't marry any gas station/shop keeper dude and Pakistani men don't seem to be that prevalent in good universities. So where the hell will they meet suitable men? No wonder some of them end up on dating sites!
