Well there are a few graduate universities with good programs but they are not online. You have to attend some classes in person.

Heriot Watt University - It is in Scotland but I know somebody who completed their MBA online from them.

Re: Online graduate program by a university in US or canada

ok great thanks for info, there is athebasca university in canada, I lnow ppl who have done their degrees from there and they are doing well, but I want to see if there is any regional university offering such course, like university of waterloo has MMSC.

Please more info will be much appreciated. Thanks

Re: Online graduate program by a university in US or canada

chic I know of athabasca university but people usually take just one or two courses there that they might have missed during the year. I don't know of many people who actually try to complete their degrees online. Even then the university is not well known, atleast in ontario. Most of the credible universities that you would find anywhere in the world would not be offering entire degrees online since they have so many students walking through their doors that they do not feel the need to. They can just fill the seats with local or international students coming here physically so keep that in mind.

Re: Online graduate program by a university in US or canada

nahi yaar, I have been looking into courses from waterloo, and couple of other universtires that are 100% netbased. Couple of my friends and my sister is doing their health sciences graduate degrees through london university university in UK.
I just want atleats few options to compare before I amke a decision.

I want to stick to canada, may be US, because I am from canada, and my all my education was done in CA, so would be easier to continue there..

u can even do a distance education masters from liverpool, uni if london and harvard.

Re: Online graduate program by a university in US or canada

you mentioned management degree but what's your objective for getting an online master's? why is a regular program not an option? also, is there a specific area of management that you're interested in?

Let us know and we might be able to suggest accordingly.

Besides UWaterloo which really has an exceptional MMSc program if you're interested in management sciences, you can look into Royal Roads University... although the University isn't that well known, it is fast gaining traction in the industry.

All that being said, I still think that with a graduate program in management, you really gain a lot of value from peer interactions which are always better in a regular face-to-face environment. For other course-based graduate programs with heavy emphasis on theoretical learning, online programs may be okay.

Re: Online graduate program by a university in US or canada

Thanks guys.

I am a software eng. and have about 9 years of experience, in last 3 years of the nine years that I have worked, I moved into sr. busines analyst/jr. project management role, so I thought it would be a good thing to get some kind of formal degree that can help me with my work plus will add value to my profile overall. I got conditional acceptance in rotmans but as life has its own ways we moved from Canada to India and I didn't get to do post-graduation in CA. Now that I have time I thought will be a good thing to complete post-graduation management degree, I really like waterloo MMSC it has MIS/MBA/Project Management ke elements. My goal is to finish post graduationa and either get a job in some multinational company(as canadian) and work in Inida (as of now I can't work or study and being pakistani born in india doesn't help) OR if we decide to move back to CA then might be easier to get back in the job market with extra knowledge.

Let me know from your experiences what do you guys think.

Re: Online graduate program by a university in US or canada

^ thanks for the additional info c-c... a couple of suggestions based on your brief profile above:

Although an online degree certainly makes sense in your situation, if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't restrict myself to Canadian universities. A U.S. or U.K. based graduate program will still be beneficial since you have considerable work experience. Also, your work experience in India is going to go a long way when you head back to Canada. "Engaging India" is a very strong theme across the IT sector in Canada right now.

Also, just as an alternative option to a degree, have you considered certifications such as PMP or ITIL etc.? The reason I bring this up is that such qualifications are still highly recognized by the industry, require significantly lesser effort and also don't have the same stigma attached to them as online degrees. So, while you're in India, you can complete a couple of these certs and think about joining a graduate program on a regular part-time basis when you're back in Canada. Just a thought...
