How many of you use services like Google Alerts? If you do you will enjoy this thread. I’d like to share with you a few that I’ve used in the past. Please add on any others that you know:
Google Alerts:
Sends you an alert email when it encounters a search term that you have specified to the email you have setup. For example I want an alert sent to me everything somebody mentions “Android jellybean on samsung galaxy”. Now anywhere on the web there’s mention of that term I’d get an email. Its pretty nifty, check if out if you haven’t already.
IFTT:About IFTTT - IFTTT
IFTTT is a service that lets you create powerful connections with one simple statement: IF THIS THEN THAT
You can use this to make 2 different services that don’t talk to each other, talk to each other. Like whichever picture I post on Facebook to automatically be scapped and saved onto my Dropbox account.
Yahoo Pipes:Pipes: Rewire the web
With Pipes you can create a filter (like Google Alert) and then do things on it. Like you collect everything that has “Android jellybean on samsung galaxy” in it. Then you pipe the result to another filter that refines the result to give you only things published on .COM domains (so .NET etc are eliminated). Then you can pipe that to see if the dates in the article are between the last 2 months. etc etc. I have created tweets and FB posts that automatically get generated by using Yahoo Pipes.

Wouldn't that create thousands of e-mails every day then?
It could, but certain caveats:
A. it doesn't include the previous results
B. You can have it send the result in digest format, like a daily or weekly email with the result.
But yes, it could get overwhelming if not setup correctly.
Wow, nobody's interested in these? So much potential here :)
I set up Google alerts yesterday, for once a day, to receive "news" on certain things. And I did receive a email with the latest coverage. Am planning on setting up more alerts. It's actually pretty well organized.
Oh and I created an account with IFTTT. In the process of creating some "recipes". Seems like an interesting matrix.
