My dad just got this brochure about PhD online from Boston University. I have convinced my dad to atleast think about it because it doesn’t seem that complicated and it works around his schedule. Its like 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week thing. I think he should go for it since its only eight courses and you have 16 months to complete it. But considering, that he hasn’t gone to school for YEARS and he isn’t too good in english either, got his degree from Pakistan but he is a licensed therapist here.
So abviously, he knows the material, but its just that he might not be albe to understand everything on his own. I am not even sure how these online courses are designed. Does anyone know?? do u think its a good idea for him to go for it?? I have to definately get more info on it..but some opinion would be good too.
bhai namukkamal sahab..... apni tou aadhi studies hi online hoti rahi hain...whether its CBT or a client-server based online/virtual classroom. They are worth if the person has a seperate and quite room with headsphone on and with no worries of whats going on in the house. I have done so many courses in my basement and then written exams lately. The good thing is that you can repeat the class as many times as you want. The instructor never tired of you :)..u know what i mean. I would suggest to go daddy go...go for it !
well i dont know..keeping my daddy's age in mind and stuff..but ok i guess i will have to wait for him to check it out..

Maddy, he doesn’t need it..he doesn’t even want it :-S its me, i just think that its cool if he gets one..but i think thats wat he said..he said PhD wont really help him, but certification from some companies would..God knows wat those are..so i doubt if he will go for it..
how good are online schools?
Depends what you define as online. if you are looking at long distance then Stanford offers a CS degree long distance. If you are talking learning online (without the degree) then MIT is currently in a multi year program of making all its courses available to everyone free of charge.
If you are looking just for a paper degree then it really depends on the school and in most cases would be regarded as significantly less useful then non-online degree. If you are looking for online degrees I would say focus on long distance programs instead.
