If you’re going to a destination that isn’t really a popular tourist spot, and your return date can be extremely flexible, is it better to purchase a one-way ticket and buy the return flight from the country itself (once you’ve arrived there)?
i mean, once you are there, wouldn’t you have more flexibility in terms of your return flights - you can choose how you want to arrange your return flight, maybe add a few more one-night stopovers somewhere, rather than having everything rigidly arranged before you leave and then find out later on that you can’t change your arrangements? So is it better to make a one-way booking from your point of departure? Once you have arrived, check out their local travel agencies and make any necessary modifications, such as preferred stopovers, on the way home. i couldn’t do this from here because i can only figure out exactly where i would like to stop-over, once i am there.
Edit: uff i don’t really know how to ask what i’m trying to say. Does anyone know what i mean? i’m asking about having more flexibility on a return flight - flexibility that i feel i cannot gain from my departure place. i can only figure out where i’d like to add more stop-overs on the return flight, once i have arrived at the destination (because that depends upon the locality and safety of the cities). So - is it better to buy a one-way ticket from here rather than make it two-way and risk having to depart without having seen everything that i wanted to see?
Nadia, some airlines are very flexible. For example, if you were to buy a return ticket that was open for 3 months, you could come back any time you wanted. Plus, some airlines allow you to make as many changes as you want for the length of your stay to where you want to stopover, as well as for how long. It really depends on the airline. The only thing to check for is that some airlines charge a lot of money for each change you make. Then again, there are some airlines that allow you to make as many changes and stop overs as you want and will not charge you extra. Just research the airlines first.
Yeah, there ARE some airlines that will let you add on a city for multiple nights, with no extra charges. You pay the same base rate whether or not you choose to visit that city, and you can choose to stay for upto three nights, at least in the case of this particular airlines, without letting that affect your costs… as long as you coordinate it a few days prior to your ‘final’ departure date. That’s kind of what i am hoping for as well.
Anyways, thanks a whole bunch. i really appreciate it.
If someone is travelling from/within US, its a really bad idea to travel on a one-way ticket. That is one of the first tests of suspicious activity and you are likely to get searched more than usual at the airports.
Plus, airlines usually charge 100 bucks to change your flights. And usually, the price difference between one-way and return-ticket is not that high. So, might make more sense to buy a return ticket and then change your return booking at the destination after paying 100 bucks. You may actually save money this way.
yaar when u r not sure about ur date of return u shud get a one way ticket...coz aaj kal a lot of intl airlines take 50 bucks everytime they make changes to ur itinerary...
its cheaper and u dont have to pay that much money at once...but overall its more expensive...
plus it gives u peace of mind in terms of when u want to return...
however, then ur trip also gets a bit disorganised as u dont know when u r returning..
till now i always used to get two way tickets...
lekin right now that i'm going to pak i'm getting a one way ticket and its hecka cheap...580 plus tax...or maybe including tax..forgot...but normally i pay anything between 1000-1600 depending on when i fly..so this is really cheap...
wow Irem, US$580 is hecka cheap for Pakistan… even if it’s one way. That’s about CDN$780.
True… hmm. Sochna paray ga. Actually i still don’t even know when i’m returning, depends upon one or two other factors - and i can’t really decide those factors unless i have reached the destination. i just want flexibility, i don’t want to get bogged down in any plans - i could also leave it one-way and then get there and not be able to return either, because all the flights are booked or something. At least one travel agent told me it comes out to about the same, price-wise, whether i book my return flight from here or there…
oh well. i’ll talk to a few more travel agents and then try to make up my mind Insha’Allah.
wow sounds like u have a cool plan Nadia :k: take care n have lotsa fun…r u going for leisure, personal reasons or gona be doing some kinda work too? where r u headed?
