ASAK, my son is getting married in a few months. My friend is traveling to Karachi and has offered to bring a few things back. I would like to give unstitched clothes to the women in the bridal party. I don’t want my friend to have to struggle to look for these since it is her vacation. So if there is one store she could go to in Karachi and get all the pieces there, what store would that be?
Anyone have a clue what an unstitched piece (that would make a full shalwar kameez suit) would cost? Not too heavy but not plain either. I am trying to figure out the budget to give her.
Re: One store in Karachi for gifts for all the women in bridal party
Gulf is full of fabric stores that sell exactly these- various kinds of dressy and light kaam walay suit pieces. When we shopped for our family for my brother's wedding, we bought these lovely mixed silk suits in chunri with light kamdani work on it for 2000 rupees each. They were essentially the same but different colour combinations.
This was in 2010 so I would suggest around 5000 or 6000 rupees each now.
Your friend will see lots and lots of variety in the stores so she just needs to pick and choose and bargain. There's also lots of stores in Gulf that sell chooriyan and jewellery, and also fancy boxes and packing materials if you need those for the bride's Bari.
