Although I think it loses something in translation. The words probably have far more significance and meaning for those who have an intimate understanding of the language. I find that translations just dont do justice because they cant impart the context of a particular word of passage. I suspect the "White flower" has a certain cultural significance which is lost on those not aware of it... We not only need to understand the words, but their cultural context I think.
There are words in Urdu and Punjabi for instance which you could translate literally, but they no longer carry the same weight as portrayed in the original wording.
I myself am not too proficient in pure Tamil. So the translation helped me out some.

Yeah I get that with a number of songs as well... AR Rehman songs are brilliant. To date, I dont think i have ever disliked any song by him...
i have always had a similar reaction to Iqbals Laab peh athi hai duwa personally... Its an oldie, but man the message is deeply moving.
