KARACHI: On the very first day of his assuming the charge of Sindh senior minister, Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Mirza has made a blatant attack on the freedom of press by stopping the Geo News team from coverage, as his guards on his directive snatched away the camera, mike, bullet-proof jackets, helmet and DVs.

Senior provincial minister, Zulfiqar Mirza got the Geo News team maltreated, abused, humiliated and insulted by his guards and himself here early this morning, when the Geo team was making a video of his VVIP convoy near Light House on M.A. Jinnah Road.

Zulfiqar Mirza moving with more than a dozen of mobile vehicles, his guards in uniform and plain clothes on his directive stopped Geo News from coverage on gun point, threatened to kill them and snatched away Geo News team’s camera, mike, bullet-proof jackets, helmet and DVs.

Meanwhile, Zulfiqar Mirza himself joined in the melee used abusive and filthy languages (not printable) naming some of the senior journalists, anchor persons of different Tv programs, Jang Group and the media as a whole. After a while on his directive, the police tried to lift the News team into the mobile, while the sr. minister grabbing Geo News reporter Shoaib Burney and cameraman Zubairuddin by their identity cards hanging with their necks dragged it away.

The journalists have declared this shameful and shocking incident an attack on the freedom of press by the provincial sr. minister, Zulfiqar Mirza and have expressed their shock and awe on it.

Don't say anything man, PPP is all set to break Pakistan again.... If this Mirza guy want, he can break away from Pakistan, remember he said that while he was holding an important govt. position in Sindh Province and the federal govt supported his claim ( by taking no action against him)

The unfortunate part is that we deserve the beasts we elect. Zulfiqar Mirza's and Babar Awan's of Pakistan belong in an prisons or insane asylems, not in the parliament. we must Stop electing them, or stop complaining about them.

First of all it was threat and robbery and not insult and secondly, does that means its OK for Dr Mirza to threat journalists if MQM and Army does that too ..?

MQM and Army do not just verbally abuse journalists, they torture and kill them.

Not a perfect response by Dr.Mirza, but I think the difference between what he did and what MQM, Army do regularly are obvious.

It should be obvious which is far more serious.

Some time ago PPP's former minister Qayum Jatoi said in a Express TV talk show, if others did corruption then it is also our right.Nothing personal but i m seeing some resemblence between your thinking and Jatoi's.

I agree they are the Mafia but Zardari Mafia is the biggest threat to this country the level of corruption they have done nobody can do and the blunders they have made only the are that much capable of making these blunders
