One Meal Weddings

Anyone planning a wedding lately?
The recently reintroduced ban on serving meals at wedinngs has been softened and single dishes will now be allowed.

Not that anyone cared for the ban. common citizens, politicians, govt officials all defied and made great use of the loopholes provided. No meals were supposed to be served at the wedding halls, but, there were no restrictions over serving whatever at home, inside, or outside under a ‘shamyana’.
Not that wedding lawn and hall mgmts felt any obligations to abide by law. They too offered complete catering services for a few thousand extra which included dinner and bribe money for a police van and crew to be lodged outside the hall to make sure no other ‘law imposing’ personnel break into a function. For larger and better off places even that wasnt necessary, a mere board reading “Graduation celebration” or “Annual Dinner” or “Birthday/Anniversary” was enough.
The ban though irritating for a society like ours, did help many people though. The “sufed poash” were helped a great deal. And that’s a very positive angle.

But as usual, the implemenation of the ban met problems. small fish kept getting caught now and then and paid fines. The bigger ones neither caught
nor punished. last week GeoTV showed a report on some politician/feudal something Magsi (could be a relative of Qadir Magsi) was caught serving lavish meals at a wedding. He pleaded it wasnt at a wedding hall/lawn but at his home…and ofcourse nothing happened.

Is the alteration in the ban good? Or should the ban go on and be more forcefully implemented or should it be removed?

Re: One Meal Weddings

Should be removed. Doesnt solve the problem. If I am right, it was designed for the common poor man that cant afford to serve lavish meals. By introducing this ban were they hoping to uproot this custom? It definately doesnt work. What good is a ban in a corrupt judiciary system, it only raised the cost of weddings for the poor. now they have to pay bribes as well, what a lack of perception... If anyone wants to do anything, they should start at the political and judiciary system and reform it...

Re: One Meal Weddings

Stupid law over which the SC and lawmakers have wasted more than enough time and energy when other more important issues are on the backburner.

Re: One Meal Weddings

yeah i think there are other issues that need to be taken care of.

By stopping the economy it wont do them any good. Those workers will be making extra money if there is more food or other items at the wedding.

Re: One Meal Weddings

Food served in weddings is a very old tradition and the ban was idiotic.jo khilanay chahay woh khilay jo nahi khilana chahay woh na khilaey ban ki kya zaroorat hai.

And no one really followed that ban as stated above.anyway jahez(dowry) is a big issue no one can ban it and the poor has to spend more money on it.

These Traditions and customs should be discouraged in our society and that can only happen with education and definitely not by force

P.S
The politician was Irfan gul magsi and he is not related to qadir magsi but he is the brother of Dr raheela magsi a tehsil nazima

Thanks for the clarification Syed.

Re: One Meal Weddings

By serving more food, there was more work...which meant poorer people who cook the food will be paid more...It how the economy goes round!
