Muslims never believed earth was flat.Early muslims were in the forefront of astronomy ,& had much modern ideas & conceopts of the galaxy & planets encompassing the whole universe.
In fact Columbus would not have took the journey for fear of “falling off the edge” of the world when going west from Spain financed by Queen Isabella,Muslims already not only through quran but AStronomical science had believed in spherical shape of the earth.
Christians up untill that time had believed otherwise because rennaisence which was fuelled by islamic scholorship & preserved in Cordova (spain) & baghdad libraries was assuring to columbus that EARTH WAS ROUND & he WAS NOT GOING TO FALL OFF THE EDGE OF THE EARTH!

Even when muslims pray they draw straight line with thread over the globe so in most of u.s. it IS NOT STRAIGHT EAST as it would be if it was flat earth BUT NORTH EAST ,and that should show FACE UP is ignorent & wastes other ppls time & confuses young Guppies further IRRESPONSIBLY.

The verses I quoted ** literally ** states that * the Earth is flat - rolled out like a carpet and mountains have been placed which are firm & unmovable - to hold this carpet down *.
If Earth is literally Flat in the Quran then what about the Sky & Stars and the Sun ?

Sorry- ya'ar, if this is difficult for you!
Orthodox Islam does not base its understanding of Quran & Allah based on modern knowledge; ** rather, it is all based on the Sunnah **.
Your modern knowledge would be in conflict to the teachings of Quran - as in the case of the Earth being Flat and you would be declared Heretic for questioning the words of Allah and teachings of His prophet.
The Sunnah teaches that all muslims should face Mecca or Ka'ba (Sacred Mosque); this insistence is predicated upon the Earth being flat as ordained by the literal quran.
Sunnah is the literal meaning of the quran.
I don’t have my sources at hand so chastise me gently, but the Quran describes the earth moon and sun in constant movement. Not only this but correctly depicts the sun as emanating energy and the moon reflecting it.....a theory not established in the western hemisphere until centuries later.
The Quran does not state that the earth is flat brother.....it's description of earthly and celestial phenomena are astoundingly scientifically correct...but then not a huge breakthrough for God.....he made it and created the Quran....these are the words of God...there is much within the Quran for the man who seeks. I don't believe anyone can take every word literally...the reason Arabic was the chosen language for this seal on Gods revelation was because of it's poetic elegance with many meanings for many conjunctions of verses. A scholar from now to Qyamat can only truly decipher and understand fully one word or even a letter. But the beauty is that everyone has their own level of understanding and if read with the heart it is enough to assure a place in heaven.
So instead of being frightened of heresy with your or my views, have enough faith in yourself and in the ummah to know that we are all judged separately in front of God. Have you done enough to answers questions on the day of your judgment?
Islam is both personal and societal...keep a balance.
For some it is entirely literal, for some totally ethereal but the truth may lie in-between.
There is no contradiction between the Sunnah or Quran. Directions on a compass do not point off into space when locating terrestrial objects.
East is East, West is West, spherical or flat directions do not change.
BTW the earth is not a sphere but the shape of a drop of water......spheroid but not a sphere.
Effectively for your everyday life the earth is flat. Your size, your senses and gravity ensure this.
So quit with the semantics back to submission for personal and societal atonement brother.

The Sun travels at roughly 150 miles per second in it's orbit on the arm of the milky way, one of the achievements of modern astronomy was recognising this....but recognised in the Quran 14 centuries ago.

The mountains have a wedge-like shape where the mountain itself is but a small part of the whole whose root is deeply entrenched in the ground. One of the functions of the mountains is to play an important role in stabilizing the crust of the earth. This is exactly how the Qur'aan described mountains 14 centuries ago. 'Pegs'

Face it Face up.....the Quran has many literal meanings within it and some that require a ounce of lateral thought. But when it comes to science there is an ocean of knowledge within.....we are skimming the surface here.
** Then he turned to the sky, and it had been (as) smoke (dukhaan): He said to it and to the earth: come you together, willingly or unwillingly. They said: we do come (together) in willing obedience. (Qur'aan 41:11).**
Interstallar gas clouds....their condensation formed the sun earth and planets.
I am not sure how anyone can call Allah - the Exalted, Wise and attribute those verses that you have chosen to quote - to Him.

Btw- Majority muslims follow the Sunnah for both its allegorical & literal verses! The Taqleed means just that - Emulate! And ahl as sunnah is taqleeds based on sunnah!
