Re: Once upon a time in Karachi

@Southie When we don't understand something, we say yes or no. What is omi?

Re: Once upon a time in Karachi

Omi ji was last seen at barah/chaubees

Re: Once upon a time in Karachi

@Southie I know only 'Kai po che' movie's Omi :p

Re: Once upon a time in Karachi

yes

Re: Once upon a time in Karachi

@Southie hahaha Kai po che is a gujrati word and shouted when we win in Kite fighting ie when our kite manja break rival's manja (thread). It is akin to Hindi word 'kata re'. In Delhi we shout 'aaibo'. Kai po che is also a name of a Hindi movie based on Cricket & gujrat riots

Re: Once upon a time in Karachi

Funny - In Tamil kai poche means lost hand. Manja being sharp could result in kai poche.

Never did learn to fly kite.

Re: Once upon a time in Karachi

@Southie I also don't know and today is kite festival. Happy Makar Samkranti :)

Re: Once upon a time in Karachi

I read Jewel as Jews. Lols. The city do have a synagogue, many churches, temples and old mosques.

From the description I found about Mumbai in Rohinton Mistry’s books specially ‘Such A Long Journey’, there are many similarities between two cities. Port, multicultural, apartments (No other city in Pakistan got as much apartments as Karachi for obvious reasons). Even when Mistry mentions Markets in Mumbai specially meat shops, it reminds me Empress Market, Sadar Karachi. Then there is Shiv Sena, very much counterpart of MQM in Karachi.

Re: Once upon a time in Karachi

@muqawwee123 multicultural apartments like chawls?

Re: Once upon a time in Karachi

multicultural in dimensions. apartments can be said chawls. Though, I don't have an experience of chawls. May be, they are small apartments / flats.
