**Hi,

i think i once got the BEST of the BESTEST Airfare deals that comes around once in a lifetime…Did anyone of you get any deals yet? if you did, let us know all about it and if you didn’t get any as of yet, where would you look for such a deal?

i’ll tell you guys about mine a bit later. i wanna hear yours first :smiley:

I was late for my flight from Lahore to Karachi. This was in early 90s when not many pple travelled. I was in my late teens and looked a proper student. Lady at the desk said that my seat had been taken and I said something like I have to go see my parents or something like that. She sat into a first class seat which was empty :-)

in the day,when airlines gave great service...

I was walking along the ramp keeping my brood together and getting the boarding passes out and telling the eldest two which way along we would have to move,while getting ready to take the lil one out of the stroller, when the air hostess said leave her in, your this way pointing to first class,your stroller will go to your seat and I left her in for quite a while...we enjoyed the luxury of emirates newest addition to the fleet..:)

I have had a few complimentary hotel stop overs too not that many offer this service any more...

etihad have upgraded me too
but have never had complimentary tickets in lieu of delayed flights...

alhumdolilah have been blessed with good travel deals.................................and now I have the urge to travel again....!thank you KKF

Once I was due to travel from Newark, NJ to Orlando, FL aboard a friday 6pm flight on delta. It was a weekend flight, and was overbooked, and while boarding, the ground staff asked if anyone wanted to volunteer getting out of the flight, and be placed on a later flight. Noone volunteered, so the staff raised the ante by offering a $25 discount voucher for a future flight. A couple of people took that offer. The flight was overbooked by about 25 people. The last offer by the ground staff, which was taken by most of the people, including me, was to be placed on a late night flight, get one free delta ticket anywhere in the US, and a $100 voucher....apart from dinner at the airport.
This was back when airlines were actually making money. Now they just bump you off without even telling you.

**wow! you got a royal treatment back then :) must have thoroughly enjoyed the perks :D

these days, they offer a free ticket and they even ask you when you, at the time of check-in, if you are interested in volunteering to give-up your seat in exchange of a free ticket to anywhere the airline flies in the continuous 50 states of the US or Canada.

i traveled with my nephew and niece last December from Buffalo to Richmond and all of us gave our consent in affirmative. They needed only ONE volunteer so we couldn't avail of that because we traveled together :(**

Oh and once I was working in a middle east country and was coming to UK for a visit. BA flight was overbooked and loads of bussiness pple could not miss the flight. Therefore they offered £200 to anyone who would delay their flight by 2 days. I remember it was 20,000 Rs at that time. donated half of it to SKH.

*wow!!! once again, it was a great compensation which comes to roughly $500 Canadian i believe.i assume your ticket prolly cost as much or a lil bit more at that time. i'm glad to hear that you had the poor in your heart and gave away half the amount in charity...May Allah reward you handsomely for that. :) btw, pardon me for my ignorance but what does SKH stand for? *

Despite having travelled quite a bit since my teens, I don't think I've ever gotten a once-in-a-life-time airfare deal. I've always had to pay to fly. :( I did get upgraded to business class once after missing a connection and being stuck at Las Vegas airport for a whole day, and once courtesy of an airport-official friend of my taya on a flight to UK from Pakistan. Other than that, I've gotten star alliance reward tickets a couple of times.

wow!!!!!!!! you had pretty decent rewards...i know it's hard to receive a 'once in a life time airfare/reward'. i did manage to get one that i'll remember all my life. it was unbeliebaly great...i believe it was the best deal that i got and for that matter anyone else will ever get. it's like i spend $1125 and in return received over close to a $100K in rewards :) amazing na? :)

*it's gonna be a long post so i will do it soon iA...it's quite interesting...it's about how to beat the airlines in their own games. they always try to be outsmart the travelers but sometimes get caught in their wide-web of their own ignorance and stupidity :) *

I enjoy gold membership on two major airlines of the world so get free upgrades very regularly. But the best one i can always remember was coming to Dubai from Paris and taking a flight to Karachi. Flight from Paris was late but i still managed to reach my boarding gate for Karachi just in time. To my surprise, i was told by Emirates that they cancelled my seat and rebooked me on next next flight after 8 hours and even though i was travelling without any checked-in baggage.

I started insisting that if i am ontime on my boarding gate how can they give my seat to some one else. There was an ISB flight leaving within two hours so i convinced them to book me to ISB instead of KHI and also arrange a taxi from ISB to my home because my orignal schedule was to fly from KHI to LHE and my car was already waiting for me at lahore airport.

And of course, they did all that. But i still think that Emirates dealt me very cheaply. If it was any Europian airlines, i could get around 300 Euros for compensation.
