It’s true. Especially — and this is probably where I feel more chauvinistic about India than some of you do — I think India as a multi ethnic, multi cultural, multi religious society in terms of its inclusiveness, its management of democracy including electronic voting machines, is a model. The US should never be afraid of a rising democratic country. Also, what is so amazing is the huge Muslim population in India. Americans are very wonderful people, but not geographically very open or understanding. I always have to say not every Muslim lives in the Middle East, the most populous Muslim state is Indonasia, and India comes right after that. And that is why I think India is a model for so many things.
The point is all this harping of Indian inclusiveness and democracy on a Pakistani board got me to wonder if I could use any of this freedom and tolerance to publish something positive about Pakistan on an Indian board…or in an Indian Newspaper (even as a letter to the editor)…or on Indian TV…or radio.
Thanks Abdali! Its been a while, but its good to see you guys around.
Oh yeah Bharat Buk buk jhuk jhuk forum where they are suggesting that “Balochi freedom fighters” shoot down PIA planes taking off from Quetta airport and even the mods are advising on ways it could be done/what missiles to use etc.
Well there is Bharat Rakshak and there are Indian cultural/songs websites that have discussion boards complete with world affairs and politics sections.
Its not the pouncing that I am talking about. Naturally that is part of a debate and that is what’ll happen…its how items extolling Pakistan when sent to Indian boards dissappear and users banned.
Lesley Stahl on U.S. sanctions against Iraq: We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?
Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: I think this is a very hard choice, but the price–we think the price is worth it.
Very sad. How could she be so irresponsible. When few thousand people died in twin tower bombing (I am not trying to say it was the right thing done by terrorists) then they say - these terrorist kill civilians, when Iraqi children die they say price is right. Such double standards. I think this double standard is the reason for most of the world not liking American Government.
India has always suffered from American double standards. Its only now they are realizing they can't do without India.
Where have you been man??? We’ve been saying this for years now…Note this comment was made back in '96 and created a huge furor in the left leaning circles, but not he mainstream…and you hadn’t even heard about it…
I had not. In 1996 I was not even too interested in world politics.
The media here in US never talks about it. I have not heard anyone asking her about these comment in interviews in recent years .
