Muslim Advocates to Testify Before U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee
on Religious & Ethnic Profiling at the Airport & Border

Dear Friends,

This Wednesday marks a momentous occasion for Muslim Advocates and the Muslim American community. Farhana Khera, our Executive Director, will testify before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution on invasive interrogations and searches of American Muslims at the border and airports when returning home from international travel. This is the first-ever appearance by a Muslim American organization in front of the Constitution Subcommittee and an important opportunity for Muslim Advocates to highlight the scrutiny Muslim Americans face during their day-to-day activities.

During her testimony, Ms. Khera will cite specific examples of American citizens being subject to unnecessary and unconstitutionally excessive searches and interrogations at U.S. airports and border crossings. Many of these examples will be entered into the public record for the first time at Wednesday’s hearing. This hearing is open to the public, and you are all welcome to attend this important and historic occasion.

What: U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution Hearing on “Laptop Searches and Other Violations of Privacy Faced by Americans Returning from Overseas Travel”

When: Wednesday, June 25 at 9 a.m. EST

Location: Senate Dirksen Building, Room 226, Washington, D.C.

The hearing should be streamed live on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s website, which can be accessed here: http://judiciary.senate.gov/hearing.cfm?id=3420

In addition, CSPAN may air the hearing. Check your local listings.

Finally, Muslim Advocates will be unveiling a 15-minute know your rights video that shows Americans how to protect themselves when returning to the U.S. after overseas travel. Check our website later this week, when we will launch our new and improved website and the video, “Got Rights? Protecting Yourself and Your Family at Home and the Airport.” Watch & share it with your family & friends. More details coming soon.

Re: on Religious & Ethnic Profiling at the Airport & Border

This is like saying police cannot stop blacks and check their cars for weapons when they commit most of the attacks with weapons.

The 9/11 terrorists all were muslims, they had all just returned from overseas after getting training. So what's wrong in profiling them?

Why people should be afraid when they have nothing to hide? It is for your own safety also!

At the same time some ignorant police also mistreat black and muslim race people and so the whole force get a black mark.

For safety of all people better and more intelligent searches should be put in airports, not less

Don't also forget that blacks are lazy, steal and are prone to lying.

what do you know? Don't talk about another race that way unless you want to be racist like ku klux khan
