‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

Re: ‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

I have already said enough on the subject. It's more to do with PCB's *naaehli *and sifarish & nepotism inherent in the system than ethnicity

[QUOTE]

I just support the team regardless of where the players are from :) Frankly I do not even look at or care about these things. If all the good players are from Karachi then so be it, if they are mostly from Lahore then good luck to them

That said I know that sifarish/corruption is deeply embedded in our selection system as it is in almost every sphere of life in Pakistan

Bottomline: Our batting is just not good enough at the moment

Although Pakistan's best batters traditionally hail from Karachi (Hanif, Miandad, Zaheer, Younis) and bowlers from Punjab (Imran, Wasim, Waqar, Fazal Mahmood, Sarfraz, Asif, Aamer etc.), it is not like there are 3 or 4 Miandads or Zaheers in Karachi waiting to burst onto the international scene. I see no upcoming batting talent apart from Umar Akmal but he has been disappointing in the tests so far. The truth is, there is an extreme shortage of good batters coming thru the system

Let's just accept that we are not good enough at the moment. We need a batting revolution. Not just 1 or 2 good batsmen but atleast 3 or 4 quality batters who are able to consistently amass 600 combined runs in a test match. That should be the minimum requirement for any quality test team. Till such time we can forget about being competitive at test level. Our currents batters have absolutely no clue how to approach test batting. They play it like T20. Talent and technique apart they seriousy lack mental application, patience and discipline (aka TEMPERAMENT)

Our bowling cannot bail us out all the time in test matches esp. if our pathetic batters cannot even score 100 runs in a test innings!!

The problem with your posts is that your venom is not against PCB but punjabis and that gives it ethnic colour.

I apologize if you got this impression. That was not my intension.
I am only pro-Karachi, because it is my city. But I have nothing against anyone else.

Just because I have raised an obvious injustice towards players of Karachi, doesn't mean that I am giving it ethnic color. If this discussion is bitter then it is PCB who is responsible for its nepotism. I should not be blamed for saying the obvious.

I think the main person responsible for this mess is Ijaz Butt. It has never been an issue anytime in Pakistan's history before him.

Re: ‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

Looks like KCCA is coming out openly now on this issue.

KARACHI: Cricket officials in Karachi Thursday criticised the selections of Pakistan’s team currently on tour in England, calling it an injustice to players from the country’s largest city.

“A number of talented cricketers from Karachi have been neglected,” Khalil Nanitalwala, vice-president of the Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) told a news conference.

“The team’s recent showings in England prove that merit was not followed in team selection,” Nanitalwala said.

Pakistan trail England 2-0 in the four-Test series, after levelling its two-Test series against Australia 1-1, on a tour marred by poor batting and fielding from a relatively young side.

After losing the first Test against England by a big, 354-run margin in Nottingham, Pakistan excluded leg-spinner Danish Kaneria from the squad for the second Test, leaving paceman Tanvir Ahmed as the only player from Karachi.

Nanitalwala said Karachi players, including Kaneria, had been deliberately omitted from the squad for the second Test, which Pakistan lost by nine wickets this week. The third Test will start in London on August 18.

“Kaneria was ousted after not being able to perform well in the first Test which is quite unprecedented and a blow to Karachi cricket,” said Nanitalwala, who led a protest outside the Karachi Press Club.

Around 200 Karachi players chanted slogans against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its selection committee.

Karachi’s Asad Shafiq was among the top run-getters in the last domestic season, while Khurrum Manzoor, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Sami, Fawad Alam and a number of other players also deserved places in the team,” said Nanitalwala.

When asked why the KCCA took so long to protest after the England-bound team was announced in June, Nanitalwala said: “We have been protesting with the PCB but decided to go public only after they took no notice.”

He said the association wanted Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, who is also the patron of the PCB, to remove the board’s chairman, Ijaz Butt, whom it accused of “injustices and nepotism”.

A number of former players have also criticised the Pakistan selection and have demanded Butt’s removal.

No PCB official was available to comment on the KCCA’s latest allegations, but on Sunday** Butt brushed aside similar criticism, saying the team selection was appropriate and accusing the media of acting as selectors**. -AFP

Re: ‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

We should select Altaf Hussein in the team.

Re: ‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

The only deserving IMO is Fawad Alam n Younis Khan :jhanda:

Re: ‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

^ how do you know if Asad is not deserving while he was the highest scorer? :chai:

Re: ‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

i was only talking about the Players i knew......there must be many from the domestic .....

Re: ‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

That will be injustice to the concept of cricket as a whole. Isn't it?

Re: ‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

Are they looking for a football? :konfused:

Re: ‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

just kick out all the oath taking brigade from the team..starting from Yawar saeed.. I don't believe in regional biases, the way I see it is the the parchi players and the troublemakers dominating the team. I'm all for starting youngsters but when you see Umar ami and Azhar Ali, who didn't even have an impressive domestic records, picked over other perofrming players then you want to question the selection criteria. The only deserving player from Karachi who is left out is Fawad Alam.

Agreed Khurram Manzoor was crap but in his last outing he had a fighting knock against Australia in Aus. who kicks a young player out of the team when he performs impressively in his last game?. Same thing happened with Alam , correct me if i'm wrong he had a half century against Austrailia in his last ODI and yet he was overlooked in Asia Cup. It takes one good knock to start your career in a right track..what kind of message you are sending to these players? it is like saying, even if you play brilliantly we will drop you for other players who have been proven ****ty. I believe it has more to do with connections than regional biases.

Re: ‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

it will satisfy some people

Re: ‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

^ You are only showing your prejudiced mind here. If you care about Pakistan rather than provincialism then you will agree that there are many players from Karachi deserving to be in the team instead of some jokers in the current team. If you care about justice then you need to agree that there are may worthless batsmen from a single city present in the team, at the expense of more deserving players from other places.

Re: ‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

Fawad may be included for England ODIs

Re: ‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

Finally, Butt has no choice left. He has been exposed in full in front of the whole world after this tour of England.

Re: ‘Omission of deserving players hurting Pakistan’

yeah ijaz butt sucks
