Independent judiciary is a manifestation of the society: Justice Iftikhar
RAWALPINDI: Non-functional Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that an independent judiciary was a manifestation of the society and the judiciary was duty-bound to fulfill its responsibilities.
Addressing Rawalpindi Bar, Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry said that the renowned lawyers of the country were assisting him in the presidential reference and urged upon the lawyers to prove that they were organized and conscious segment of the society.
Non-functional Chief Justice told that the judiciary owes a responsibility to maintain the check and balance, as the loss of balance affects the attaining of justice and it was the duty of the judiciary to perform responsibly.
Justice Iftikhar said that the judiciary should be separate from the executive so that the confidence of the people could be restored. He said that the Pakistan constitution enshrined the independence of the judiciary and, therefore, the independence of the judiciary demanded that none should interfere in its work.
Earlier, the non-functional Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on arrival at the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court was given a hilarious welcome by the lawyers, who raised deafening slogans in his support.
