one of my friend is asking a question. He is 35. He does not have any problem, but he has stress, he is not taking any medicine. Also some times his colestrol level goes high. He also some times forget the things, but not too much. Some body told him that he can take omega 3 1000 fish oil, it has many benefits.
He want to start now omega 3 1000, can he start it or he should go to doctor and the doctor must told him to start???
If he start omega 3 1000, he should continue for his whole life or just one or two month and then discontinue??
Re: omega 3 fish oil
what is he stressed about? isnt taking away the stress the better fix? omega 3 pills may lower cholesterol, but they may also raise the risk of some other issues. and lose weight - even 5 - 10 lbs will make a difference in chol numbers for many people. and lastly, eat healthy. bye bye gosht. bye bye ghee. hello sabziyaan..
Re: omega 3 fish oil
Fish oil is very good esp for cholestrol. Ususually you can take it without consulting teh doctor but he may want to call in and ask just to be sure.
Re: omega 3 fish oil
Queer just curious bro, what are the risks? Im asking because alot of elderly ppl i know take it and prolly are not aware of any risks.
Re: omega 3 fish oil
i think omega-3s are associated with increased hemorrhaging/bleeding risk, which might be a problem for people with certain kinds of chronic conditions.. so best to run it by your doc first.
the other thing is, to make sure your omega 3 pills are mercury-free. if the omega 3 comes from an algal source, the risk is minimal. if it comes from small fish like herring or sardines, its still okay. but if it is extracted from top level predators like tuna/cod etc, you need to be sure itwas processed to remove mercury.
Re: omega 3 fish oil
Can you suggest some brand name with is mercury free

LOVAZA
Consuming vegie diet does not mean it is really healthy or lowers cholesterol
Re: omega 3 fish oil
Thanks diwana, queer... useful info...
Re: omega 3 fish oil
lovaza is a prescription med, and not for just anyone.
and yes, vegetarian diets unless well balanced will leave huge nutritional holes. but if you live comfily in the west, chances are you could turn your diet more towards an a la micheal pollan "eat food mostly plants" with zero risk of that. especially amping up the soluble fiber vegs, your cholesterol will almost certainly drop unless you have serious genetic issues.
