Old threads...

:salam:

As you all know we have a storehouse of some old threads in the archives…Rarely, but definitely I browse through them time to time and find stuff which I find very interesting or funny and would like to comment on it and share those comments with others…

I understand the policy of bringing up 15-20 old threads which you yourself opened just to bump them up, and the ensuing warning, but why is there such a practice that posts by someone else can’t be brought back up for discussion?

Although I can just open up a new thread with the same title and content, however isn’t that redundancy? I am sure Azkar pays a lot for the bandwidth of this site as well as server space which must be costing him a pretty penny in just archives alone…So why not use that archive (Now rendered useless since we can’t reply to them), by saving on people opening up threads with the same old content?

Apart from that, I am sure many existing members would love to see what they were like on GupShup a year or two ago and what has changed in their thinking?

I for one really see no harm at all in bringing up old threads for the new members to partcipate in, and interestingly enough, some of the posts of yesteryears were great…At least let existing members share those interesting threads with current members…

Even if you do decide not to reply to this thread, I would like to know the logic behind this policy?

I am against the fact if you bump your own 7-8 threads up for attention or whatever, but I see no reason why a thread opened by someone else, brought up by me, would be grounds for a warning and a lock on that interesting thread thereby sealing off that particular piece of history forever…In fact I was the one that was opposed to bringing up old threads as they pushed the new ones down, however my logic applied to bumping your own threads.

In any case, I suggest you save a lot of money by dumping those year or two year old threads which serve nothing more than taking up space or come up with at least a time limit, like, threads from so and so dates cannot be brought up.

It sounds pretty nonsensical to me as I for one can’t come up with a sound reason why such a boorish policy is in place. If you do have a reason, please do enlighten me.

I don’t like creating any problems for anyone, and I am thankful to Azkar for providing such a creative and productive pastime free of charge and allowing me the privilege to participate, and like everyone else, I come here to relax and share ideas.

Unfortunately the sharing becomes a little restricted if we can’t indulge in issues of the past with bygone members who had some interesting stuff to share…

Regards…

By all means you are welcome to do so, albeit for the content of the particular thread.

Not all the bumped up threads have been locked. Threads which warranted locking/removing have been dealt with accordingly while others lay unscathed.

Not taking anything away from your magnanimity of sharing the good stuff of yester years with the budding guppies of today, it would be appreciated if you keep in mind the content of the same in consideration while sharing them again. What may have been acceptable then, may not be acceptable now. I am sure you understand.

Trust it helps.

:wsalam:

Khan, Umer’s first post was so nice and decent and all the replies were so clean…Why the lock on that? :konfused:

And anyways, I would try and judge for myself what was acceptable and what is not, but I know my judgements aren’t always perfect…I hope you realize that too…

Anyways, if that was the case I wrote all that rubbish for nothing…From your PM I assumed bringing old threads up was a nono, period…

Anyhow, gracias for the reply…

P.S. I hope you realize I will never bring anything up that is remotely indecent, and I have no idea what was and is accepted, so if I do bring up something that you feel you need to lock, go ahead by all means…

P.P.S. I am sorry if I offended you in any way, no hard feelings…

:wsalam: (forgot it earlier :o)

regarding Umer’s first post…i could not for the life of me think of any reason whatsoever of bringing that up. It was as plain a post as it gets and there was nothing ‘kicky’ about it..i mean dischasp..jis ka faida de kar post ko chora jaata..i hope you identify with me here.

I hope you would appreciate that with the lovely Cafe crowd that we deal with (with all due respect)..such actions in no time assume a bandwagon effect to which all and sundry want to jump on. Please recall incidents like strawberry eyes/nose/ears/XXX and what not threads and other similar episodes. Bumping up threads can take a snowball shape too..its quite contageous so be assured we will be hard on it-albeit with reasons :~)

No love lost mate  and while we are getting all touchy-feely here, may i also request you to cut down->exacerbate->decimate your monospace text designs..which appear quite cool but mess up the page width/margins for most of the users (you may be an exception with a high resolution but i do not want to get into that). Hope you will oblige.

Mukhlis,

Khanzada :Pretty:

^^ Definitely I'll oblige Khan, absolutely no problems...

But I'll also stick to my belief that there is absolutely no wrong in bringing up old threads, even hundreds of them...Kissi ka kiya ja raha hai...Hundreds are opened every day, wouldn't matter if a hundred old ones popped up...Threads are threads, kissi ko is main khushi hai to honay do, hum kissi ki khushi pay darbaan kiyun banain...Maghaz mari alag ho aur bekaar main gilay shikway alag...

Anyways, thanks for the replies...Appreciated...
