As you all know we have a storehouse of some old threads in the archives…Rarely, but definitely I browse through them time to time and find stuff which I find very interesting or funny and would like to comment on it and share those comments with others…
I understand the policy of bringing up 15-20 old threads which you yourself opened just to bump them up, and the ensuing warning, but why is there such a practice that posts by someone else can’t be brought back up for discussion?
Although I can just open up a new thread with the same title and content, however isn’t that redundancy? I am sure Azkar pays a lot for the bandwidth of this site as well as server space which must be costing him a pretty penny in just archives alone…So why not use that archive (Now rendered useless since we can’t reply to them), by saving on people opening up threads with the same old content?
Apart from that, I am sure many existing members would love to see what they were like on GupShup a year or two ago and what has changed in their thinking?
I for one really see no harm at all in bringing up old threads for the new members to partcipate in, and interestingly enough, some of the posts of yesteryears were great…At least let existing members share those interesting threads with current members…
Even if you do decide not to reply to this thread, I would like to know the logic behind this policy?
I am against the fact if you bump your own 7-8 threads up for attention or whatever, but I see no reason why a thread opened by someone else, brought up by me, would be grounds for a warning and a lock on that interesting thread thereby sealing off that particular piece of history forever…In fact I was the one that was opposed to bringing up old threads as they pushed the new ones down, however my logic applied to bumping your own threads.
In any case, I suggest you save a lot of money by dumping those year or two year old threads which serve nothing more than taking up space or come up with at least a time limit, like, threads from so and so dates cannot be brought up.
It sounds pretty nonsensical to me as I for one can’t come up with a sound reason why such a boorish policy is in place. If you do have a reason, please do enlighten me.
I don’t like creating any problems for anyone, and I am thankful to Azkar for providing such a creative and productive pastime free of charge and allowing me the privilege to participate, and like everyone else, I come here to relax and share ideas.
Unfortunately the sharing becomes a little restricted if we can’t indulge in issues of the past with bygone members who had some interesting stuff to share…
Regards…
