11340.Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Mack 10 - Only In California
Although not a gangsta rap by hardcore standards, the following song was one of the first rap songs I heard back in Pakistan. I rented this VHS of music videos and this song was in it. I was speechless and the rest is history. Now I happen to have a large collection of gangsta rap from old and new school :D
11340.Eric B. and Rakim - Move the Crowd
11340.Eric B and Rakim - Follow The Leader
11340.Eric B. and Rakim - I Know You Got Soul
11340.Warren G - Regulators
(dedicated to our Admin: Baba G)
NWA - whose members included Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren and Eazy E.
This group is known as the architects of gangsta rap. I was in UK when their album was released. I heard it there first time and it was selling like hot cakes. They put the gangsta rap on the world map.
Explicit lyrics, glamorizing the hustlin hood, derogatory names for opposite sex, sounds of gunshots and heavy bass: Gangsta Rap is born.
11340.Eazy E - Boyz in the Hood
Westside Connection (Ice Cube, WC, and Mack 10) are responsible for keeping the gangsta rap true to its roots :D
11340.Westside Connection feat. Ice Cube, Mack 10 - West Up
Ice T - Known as The King of LA Rap. His music influenced later gangsta rap artists like Ice Cube (NWA), Snoop Dogg, Warren G etc.
This is the theme song from the movie "Colors" released back in 1988. It depicts the gang life in South Central LA. Starring Sean Penn and Robert Duvall.
