Aww how cute :) I dont' think I have to worry about telling stories to my grandkids-that will only be if I have any kids of my own to begin with-which is not happening.

That story sounds like my story(starting with your location during 1965 war)…except my father did not go to war…war came to our home
About war stories: Usually in our household start of war of 1971 in Khemkarn sector is described as following:
“tarkaalaN da vela si…asiN aah vehRay ch baithey chaah pee reh si…pehlaN te 2 jahaaz langay baRhe neeweiN neewiN aidroN…kanna de paTaake nikal gaye…ajjay asiN jahaz ee vekhan Dahe aan ke te odroN tope da fire khull giya…bass pher ki si…”

Re: Old ppl
from his calm and slow reaction, i can guess he wasnt really a infantry crew. Those pple keep going like "energizer bunny" when you ask them "so how was it?" . He prob was medic , radar navigator or intelligence/communications
Re: Old ppl
She had the radio on and was listening to when it was interrupted by the news that the indo-pak war has started, even though knowing those who were in the military force and as that time the phone technology was not good in pinds, they got the knews via the radio. Rushed out and notified the elders. And since there was a station/base (something of that sort that the indian army will attack) near the pind, the elders have all the ladies, girls, old and kids into the the bunker underground in the hawali . Days went by, planes fly by, at low. There were crashes or attacks that the planes or the pieces of planes will end up on the zameen and maybe those on board dead or injured, managed to walk away. People will observe/listen and rushed out in that area later . There were people who will walk up to those pieces and take them home. Sold them out later. Some had it saved as a souvenir, a thing to remember by. A rifle back there has a story attach to it. Plenty..
