Re: Old Masters, Young voices

I never thought Zehra Nigah did depressing poetry  but very nicely put!

DNA Double helix by Amin Gulgee  I don’t get it.

Great job by Rana - must have taken him ages!!

Thanks everyone for liking :)

I like work of Amin Gulgee. He is brilliant. He works with metal, mostly copper and bronze. He makes very good sculptures and jewlery. Pictures can't do justice here. This is the first time I saw his work, although have seen many times on tv.

If you see his interview, he looks mentally/physically challanged :D
But he is very intelligent and tallented...

here...

*I began experimenting and working with metal. Copper and bronze are the only glorious metals that exist – they stay forever – I like that permanence – not that I seek any immortality in my work – just the fact that they will remain.

It’s funny that I became an artist – I am non-romantic about an artist’s lifestyle. For all the pleasure and joy of work, one has to survive on one’s work. My life has been a series of accidents. I was in college, doing three majors in Art History, Architecture and Economics at Yale. Architecture was great – I got to paint and draw and create models – and at Yale you could just about do anything. In my final year at Yale I had to choose one major for my thesis. I hated Economics and thought Art History would be more interesting and challenging. My dissertation was on Mughal Gardens with special focus on Shalamar Gardens in Lahore. After my graduation I thought I’d try my hand as an artist and if I did not succeed, I’d go back and do an MBA. *

What is style?
Originality
Who is the most stylish Pakistani?
My mom **
Who is the least stylish Pakistani?
**Nancy Reagan, actually she is a Sialkoti. But the least stylish person in the world was definitely Mahatama Gandhi

What is the biggest fashion no-no for all times to come?
Copying any trend too literally
.......

Art for All --(old)...

Amin Gulgee hosted a gathering of selected media personalities and art lovers for the pre launch of his sculpture. Forgotten text the concept behind the creation of this forty foot high sculpture is designed to bring the local artist and the public closer. This sculpture made of glass; computer motherboards, copper, iron and steel will be placed on a Clifton’s round about for public viewing. Its existent would encourage creativity and support our local artist and prove that round abouts are just not for commercial purposes..

.Amin Gulgee said " Mohenjodaro, like Karachi today, was a vibrant centre of ideas and innovation and arose because of trade and commerce, 1 think its appropriate, therefore that the sculpture made in homage to Karachi should be created from symbols of this forgotten Language entitled "forgotten text" this monumental work is made from these hieroglyphic symbols joined together to create a form suggestive of a chariot racer".

Re: Re: Old Masters, Young voices

God for me is also Chance – the element in our lives that we do not control. The three most important paths of our life are birth, death, and love – all three are controlled by chance. One of my sculptures is called Chance – a DNA molecule with the word Allah inscribed on it – for me that is God. What’s beautiful about Islam is its submission to God and that there is a direct link between God and a person – nothing comes in between – you create your own balance between the divine and you – or between chance and you

is that tall thin guy, Amin Gulgee's son...and is his name ALSO Amin gulgee?

:smack:

That is Amin Gulgee[extreme left], next is his father Ismail Gulgee, and his mom.

I thought the OLD man was Amin Gulgee!

My buddhi aunt talks of him, so I thought Amin Gulgee must be the older guy.

fudge nevermind - she was talking about the older guy - he's just referred to as Gulgee.

wow nice… simply superb !! :k:

Re: Old Masters, Young voices
