Old Clothes

What do you guys do with your kids’ old clothes?
I am talking of those which show signs of being worn, like stains or some lint or slightly faded colors.A few have lost the original buttons(in the washer/dryer) and might have a mismatched button or so.
Should I dump them in those donation boxes which they have placed in some parking lots…??..leave them at Good will…??

The clothes I am talking about are not those which can’t be worn at all, because they can be.I am running out of space to store *all *of the clothes, and I think I don’t want to just throw them in the trash. What is my best choice to dispose them in a way that they can be used by someone??

Thanks.

Re: Old Clothes

I think donate the ones that you are not likely to use for your next baby. That's what we're doing.

Re: Old Clothes

I am going to donate my daughter's clothes to goodwill. One man's trash is another's gold (or something like that lol) so i am guessing someone will see the good in the not so decent ones and make an outfit out of it by replacing buttons or other crafty things with them.

Re: Old Clothes

**you may donate or sell it to "Hands Me Down" stores. i dunno how much they pay but they do pay...i saw commercial once.

you may wanna ship ur old clothes to back home via the charities. if you have to ship it, it costs lil to send by sea mails.**

Re: Old Clothes

We donated to goodwill. Some people I know send them to Pakistan to be given to poor folks there. They even send dresses of grown up folks to be donated to poor people.

Re: Old Clothes

Thanks..:)
I think most of them will end up at Goodwill. These are the ones I don't want to save and know that I wont be using them for any future kids.
If it was an easy thing to do,I would have just sent them back home but that wont work out for now.

Re: Old Clothes

I will prefer goodwill over the boxes that you find in the parking lots.. what I have heard is taht at Goodwill, they actually sort them out and use locally right away but in the boxes things sit there forever and forever, get rotten, and most of it discarded later!!

I cant picture parting away with my baby clothes yet.. I may hang on to them forever :D

Re: Old Clothes

I used to think the same way just a year ago.I even had a hard time leaving her outgrown clothes in Pakistan just because my luggage was overweight. But they take up so much space, that unless I get that big house with walk in closets,I can't just keep everything. The basement is getting occupied with the bigger stuff, the swing, the old car seat..eventually the high chair has to join in there as well.My baby does need a bigger house...:D

Re: Old Clothes

most of the clothes are going into a suitcase in my parent's basement for the next baby.

I would donate them to a needy foreign country

Re: Old Clothes

There are charities that even come and pick up at your doostep. You don't even have to answer thedoor, just leave them out in trash bags orboxes marked with the name of thecharity and they will leave you a tax deductible receipt. VVA is one. There is also Women Another Chance and Children Home Society here in the States.

Re: Old Clothes

Eastern11..Thanks for the info.

I have saved most of her stuff, some were not that worn and most of them had 'memories' associated with them...:D
But there are some that need to go.

Re: Old Clothes

I am not hanging on to anything except his swing, car seat, gym. I made bags of clothes with 0-3, 3-6 months. Two seperate bags. He is now wearing 6+. I want to send them to Pakistan so I need to find someone who can take them. Maybe my MIL who is visiting me in few weeks will.

Re: Old Clothes

Donate to charity shops. If they think they are not worth selling on in the shop, they sell them to material recycling companies.

Re: Old Clothes

I am taking mines to pakistan and giving to relatives ... they really appreciate it and good to see your baby's cloth worn again.

Re: Old Clothes

I usually donate my clothes. I wouldn't donate clothes that are unwearable however, most of mine are in pretty good condition when I donate.

Then some chap in Africa is donning some designer gear. Lol.
