ok some advice needed....

how to persuade a father to let his daughter travel to kashmir for helping out…

father’s argument 1: if you are going to spend $1300 on a ticket, why not instead just give the money to them?
father’s argument2: there is already a HUGE number of people volunteering and travelling to pakistan, they need supplies actually.

but the daughter wants to go …:frowning:

so any ideas on what to say to him tonight (without being rude or whiny) in order to persuade him?

Re: ok some advice needed....

that you canhelp them directly. you cant trust those organizations to give them the $$... uhmmm thas all i cant hink of :D

Re: ok some advice needed....

the father is right. there is enough man power already in the area, who can do the same work you will do, the thing thet are missing is different tools to help the people there.

Why don't you hire a crane and send it to the area. That will be a greater help than you going over yourself.

Re: ok some advice needed....

Shweet if you are really serious about going and if you were asking me for permission, I would say provide me with a list of things that a 20+ year old girl can do there? Are you a paramedic, nurse, doctor, can lift heavy machinery, psychiatrist? What qualities you possess that will aide those people in need?

If you substantial talking points to convince your dad which would go something like Dad, I am an orthopedic surgeon and they really are in desparate need of orthopedic surgeons for the injured people then I would let you go.

Re: ok some advice needed…

:frowning:

gizzy::confused: HIRE A CRANE?

Re: ok some advice needed....

shweets listen to rukhs: she is right, we all have feelings and want to help.

Re: ok some advice needed....

somehow i am not satisfied with giving money to some organization.

who knows how the money is used.

and i do want to share their pain.

Re: ok some advice needed…

If you donate your cash to Edhi Trust, then you ca be sure it will not end up in someones pocket. Or to one of the other banners links you’ll find at top of this page.

yupppp. they are in need of cranes there, to lift the debris and the rubble.

Or arrange a helicoter for heavy cargo needs. That also something you can do.

Re: ok some advice needed....

I think you're father is right. If you get a plane ticket, how are you going to help if you don't have enough money left for other things to help?

Re: ok some advice needed....

ur own personal satisfaction...nothing wrong in going and helping people urself...achi baat hai...

Re: ok some advice needed....

Xactly my thoughts. Any skills you have that you can use to help them? doesn't have to be medical related. Journalism, physiatrist (people have to recover from traumas), etc.

If you just want to pull dead bodies out from rumble - r u physically active enf to do this most of the day in harsh enviroment (with lil food / water etc)?

Don't get me wrong, i understand how you feel. Although, I haven't lost anyone close - my heart aches that I am sitting here and not really helping (ya don't get much satisfaction from throwing money :) )

I am not sure where are you located but here in toronto, they are gathering volunteers to box the items they need to ship to pakistan through PIA (PIA providing free flights for this). Do drive runs to carry all items to central place in Scarbrough, etc.

insha-Allah I am going there to help today. May look in your area and I am sure you will find somefin familiar (help in fund raising is an option too)

Re: ok some advice needed....

^^ thanks PrinceMS. that DOES make me feel better. i am trying to get in touch with a friend who organizes stuff like junoon concerts and such, and we will try to come up with ideas for fund raisers.

Re: ok some advice needed....

girly wirly your father is right!

BUT

if you can, take time out after your studies(if you are studying) after a holiday in paks(if you go there) and do some volenteer work in an orphanage or similar type place...you can do a lil teaching or something

they get help from you

but far more importantly for you...YOU will gain the most amazing experiences and learn a great deal, about yourself, life in general and the world and other people.

Re: ok some advice needed....

^^ yeah i think u guys r right.

Re: ok some advice needed....

I get 3 weeks holiday. So a 2 week family get-together in Bahrain where my parents live, then 4 days in Karachi to see my surviving grandparents, back to Bahrain to say bye to my parents, then back to North America for another year.

Re: ok some advice needed....
