WHO ELSE then? Surely a nation of 170 million can come up with SOMEBODY who can do a better job than all the previous ones…

One, you don't vote for president. It is only twisted PPP democracy where the president somehow became more important than the prime minister. President is just supposed to be a figure-head, a symbol of federation.
If we just try and 'research' before we vote, things would change. We don't need to vote for 'bhutto' or 'sharif' or 'bhai'. Just see what kind of people they have nominated for your constituency and vote accordingly. Even if better, cleaner people from the big parties get elected, it would be a nice change, forcing parties to nominate clean people in the next elections and hopefully, things would get better eventually. Democracy take decades to mature but unfortunately interventions from our 'security forces' keep us going back to the same old guys again and again.

Right - sorry -- I am in the US and thinking that way. Still, all the representatives you elect are then going to choose a leader. And they keep putting up the same usual suspects.

My na-e , qas-e , sabzi wala have more insight into the problems and their solutions. How come these elites of Pakistan do not have their finger on the pulse of problems and their solutions.
MQM's leadership came from middle and poor class and solved many issues facing Karachi , so may be the key to solving Pakistan's issues is to let poor or middle class get the lead as they face the brunt of all the issues and they will be able to solve them.
So I nominate Munna Qassab for President and Fatto Nai for Prime Minister and so fore so forth.

We cannot have true democracy in the Land of Pure till there are free and fair elections held within the political parties. So, the bad apples can be sidelined and instead a new breed of politicians emerging from the political parties are given a fair chance.
