Oily Oily

Old generations were most sensitive about hair. They used to apply oil (Mano ke hisab se). Ladies used to apply henna mixed with aamla, reetha and whats not. They didn’t even forgive eggs and yogurt.

Is this still followed?

Re: Oily Oily

Re: Oily Oily

There was a boy in our class, who used oil regularly and heavily. Someone commented 'ye subh uth ke tail ke tub main dubki lagata hoga' :)

Re: Oily Oily

yup...there were both brand name oils as well as generic forms of it like chameli, naariyal kaa tel. sometimes, when tel wasn't available, they wouldn't skip the day...they would rather use mustard oil even! lol...

...i remember, applying oil and massaging the scalp was quite a pass-time for women folks...they used to help each other and also once a week, usually on Fridays, the naayin [wife of the barber] would come and do all the hygienic acts on all of us like cutting nails [with a hand held cute lil razor with long handle and asharp small head called "nahannii"], wash women's hair with multaanii miTTi and then applying oil...

...these naayins and naayiis were kinda slaves...they were never paid for their services but rather they would be given certain amount of grains when crops were harvested and other perks like shaadii byaah par joRe [least expensive], maut zindagii par joRe aur tewhaar par khaane peebne kii cheezeN aur joRe aur kuchh cash.

poor people worked for peanuts! :( sad! :(

Re: Oily Oily

But KKF mustard oil (sarson ka tail) is very much common to apply on hair here in Pakistan. Some multinationals recently came up with Shampoo brands having mustard oil extracts

Re: Oily Oily

really? may be, in those days, it wasn't that common...may be they were ahead of their times! sarsoN kaa tel sticky hotaa hai aur is men ek mahek hotii hai...maiN ne zindagii meN kabhii tel nahiiN lagaayaa...haN, bachpan meN mujhe yaad hai k merii ammii mujhe dauRaa dauRaa kar pakaRtiiN aur phir zabardastii tel kii sheeshii mere baaloN meN unDel kar us meN apnii ungliyoN ke hal chalaa detiiN lol...unke intiqaal ke ba'd kisii ne nahiiN lagaayaa tel...ya'nii age 9 ke ba'd se.
