I hope you do realize superpower does not mean merely military might. Its economic might is just as real and powerful. Even if we go by the narrow definition that oil is key to the world economy, the US is the largest ( if not one of the largest ) oil producing country in the world ( (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-07-04/u-s-seen-as-biggest-oil-producer-after-overtaking-saudi.html) ).

I hope that you realise that if you get enough free money from the world then any country can become a military and economic power over a period of time. After WW2 Europe was destroyed and the US stepped in to fill the vacuum and to put in place a system that allowed it to plunder the wealth of other nations in a subtle way.
