Re: oil massage (malish)
how does olive oil make one darker?
Re: oil massage (malish)
i heard from someone...afro :)
so i didn't use olive oil instead used baby oil for body massage, and coconut for hair to my daughter :)
Re: oil massage (malish)
I've heard that any kind of oil makes baby darker.....and I don't get it.....wonder if the people saying this stuff were putting the oil on and not removing it with a bath....then letting the child in the sun (sunbathing....a common step after malish back home). This would be akin to suntanning.....so yes...it would make the baby darker.
In any event....we start malish within a week of the child being born. Done correctly it helps the digestive system, removes unnecessary hair and encourages limbs/bones to grow and join in the correct way.
Malish includes shaping the nose cartiledge and pressing on the area between the upper lip and the nose to ensure that the it does not jut out from the suckling that the baby is forced to do.
Malish also helps to form the many bones that make up the skull into a symmetrical shape after they have passed through the birth canal.
There are countless other benefits to massage......
Re: oil massage (malish)
Muzna, no i didn't sun bath my daughter after the massage...i know about shapping nose etc... actually i don't remember when did i start with my daughter as she was premature at 8 months...so it depens i guess. thanks :)
Re: oil massage (malish)
I started maalishing my girls soon after they were born. They loved it. It greatly reduces digestive issues and improves circulation. If you are scared then wait until the cord thingie falls off. And I used olive oil. They didn't become darker.

Re: oil massage (malish)
i start malish when my little was only 1 week, first i use i used melted butter after 3 month i start to use almond oil, its works really good
Re: oil massage (malish)
i have found olive oil to be much better at moisturizing than normal oil.. i started massaging my baby the very next day after delivery. he loved it. and like ppl have already said, its great for circulation, gets rid of gas, eases the limbs.
i dont think babies get any darker with the use of oil. my son didnt.
Re: oil massage (malish)
Olive oil was what i used, and i started massage as soon as i got him home from the hospital which was a week after his birth
Re: oil massage (malish)
my mom had done oil malish on me and I am not dark . I dont think ur child will become dark with the use of oil. Infact it's good esp for baby girls.
Sunlight makes baby's bones strong and I have heard that Doctors recommend it themselves whenever needed.
Re: oil massage (malish)
There has been many research papers on using olive oil massage in pretem babies. And it is found that massaging preterm from the beginning with olive oil make them to get weight gain better and more, as compared to babies not massaged.

What is your massage process?

The above is true in case of my premie daughter.

Process is simple , take some olive oil and massage on baby's body. arms , legs , chest. it makes muscles and bones stronger but I don't think it plays a direct role in weight gain. I think it helps in blood circulation.
