Oil Management

So what do you do with oil? After using it for frying etc? How do you re-use it etc? Storing?

Re: Oil Management

it depends for wat purpose uve used the oil...as in if uve fried sea food in the oil den u can store your oil in air tyt jars n keep it in the fridge and use it again for frying sead food only...if uve fried lyk pakoras or samosas then u can used that oil in your salans too after draining it properly...but u have to make sure that oil is fresh and clean...over using the oil can spoil your food...i guess oil can be kept in the fridge for about 20 days i guess

Re: Oil Management

We never put the oil in the fridge? It is always outside! Is that a bad thing to do?

Re: Oil Management

I do not know why you would keep oil in fridge , there is no oil eating bacteria present in atmosphere which will spoil it.
Who do you think oil is used for pickling ? To save the pickle from going bad.
Now back to your question of recycling used oil. If you do not mind cross contamination of flavors like fish flavored pakora or fish flavored egg or , pakora flavored egg you can use that oil a couple of times more , but after certain times it will break or will go black in color so you want to limit your recycling of cooking oil.
A good household affairs thread though. :k:

Re: Oil Management

But Mirch bhai, considering the recession and everything recycling oil is important. What can be the best solution to this?

If you mean commercial recycling then some companies are there which pickup that used oil from restaurants and convert it into fuel.
Ever came across a car whose smoke smells like french fries ? So you take your oil to that restaurant and put it in their oil recycling bin which is kept outside for the whole neighborhood to dump their cooking oil in it. They would not mind because they get paid for that oil by the gallons.
Here, you can make your own biofuel it is so very easy:

Re: Oil Management

Even commerical but I mean at home too. Cooking oil does not come cheap?

But , but , but , you cannot reuse or recycle it forever. Can you ?
So the best way would be not to fry anything and when using it in salans just use little bit which does not show at all as a layer on the top.
I have other ideas for reuse and recycling it but you would not like any of those as you look like that you were raised in West .

Re: Oil Management

Ok but would you mind sharing the other ideas too? just in case I do like them?

Re: Oil Management

I will only reuse oil within a few days. After that I put it in an plastic container and dispose of it. I only reuse the oil for the same thing I used it for originally (ie if I fried onions, then i will only reuse it to fry more onions.)

Re: Oil Management

But wouldnt this accumulate lots of containers with oil? If you only re-used it for the thing you used it in the first place? And where do you store all these plastic containers?
