Oil for hair.

What kind do you guys use? I can’t remember the last time I oiled my hair, probably 4-5 years ago when I was visiting Lahore. I just cannot stand oil in my hair and I hate the smell too. Buuuuuut last night, I decided to apply some almond oil and I wrapped it up in a shower cap and slept overnight with it on and woke up to the most AH-mazing hair. I have curly hair so my hair needs all the moisture it can get but I used to stick to hair serums and conditioners etc but now I am def. going to do a weekly overnight treatment of oil on my hair.

I was thinking of also buying extra virgin coconut oil since I heard coconut oil is one of the oils that actually sinks to the hair as opposed to the others which just coat it. What about extra-virgin olive oil, do any of you guys use that? I know mustard seed oil is really the most popular one back in Pakistan/India but I cannot STAND that smell.

Also, for those that do oil their hair how long do you guys keep it on for? I have long hair that’s lower than my waist so it becomes such a hassle to apply oil to all that hair but now I’m starting to see it’s def. worth it.

Re: Oil for hair.

Oiling your hair is awesome and I wish I did it more but forget to.

Coconut oil is fantastic.

I use olive oil on my face and sometimes at the ends of my hair when I need a haircut and haven't gotten one. I have the saaaaaaaaaame issue...dryness since my hair is curly.

Re: Oil for hair.

I have never oiled my hair. The only one time it happened was when I was 8 years old and I hated the feeling of cold oil trickling down my scalp..YUCK! but I have a question for you girls (sorry M, about not answering your question and posing my own lol). I have a decent amount of hair, alhumdulilah, not too worried about it falling out, but my hair breaks a LOT. According to my hair dresser, I have a lot of hair but it's very thin hair so it tangles and breaks a lot. What can I do to make my hair thicker and stronger? if oil will help, which one? oh and a side note, my scalp gets oily very quickly, so I don't want something that will make it oilier.

Oh I just remembered, I heard somewhere on tv that a combination of coconut, mustard and castor oil is very good for hair.

Re: Oil for hair.

^ Yeah, mustard oil stinks but it’s great for hair.

Coconut oil is the best. My mom got this, and I think it smells really good. Like coconut macaroons. drool

Re: Oil for hair.

i oil my hair once in week and leave it overnight .. i have a shop of oil :cb: (u’ll know at the end of this paragraph why am i saying this) and i do believe oil works amazing make the hair smooth shiny and managable and i always warm my oil… what i do is i sometimes apply pure coconut oil, sometimes extra virgin olive oil and sometimes i mix kalonji oil, amla oil ,coriander oil (smells gross) castor oil ,2drops of glycerine and few drops of vitamin E oil and i also have magziat oil which i bought from saeed ghani so i mix all the above make it warm, apply and leave it overnight ..

yes i have so many oils thats y i said i have a shop of oils hehehe :cb: i need to buy almond oil as well.. :@:

plus yes mustard oil works amazing i heard a nuskha from beautician ranii who used to come on indus plus ( sola singhar).. she said have some musturd oil add some musturd seeds (like half cup)and slices of lemon mix everything in a jar and leave it under the sun for 7 days do not open the charge during these days and start applying after 7 days… i did so and my frnds noticed a BIG difference in my hair.they were more healthier and shiny.. i stoped doing it as it smells like achaar seriously!! :halo:

Re: Oil for hair.

Yay..this is the one my mom gets and yes, it does smell fantastic. I usually warm it up and mix a few drops each of lavender, rosemary, and peppermint essential oils in it. It smells divine and feels heavenly.

Re: Oil for hair.

just came across this website

My mom used to oil my hair regularly and tie in a very tight braid. I had the thickest, blackest hair and all the way down to my waist. Abbu hated my dry head of hair that was without oil.

But as I grew older I just hated the oily feeling in my head and stopped oiling and it has shown its results on my hair.

I made the oil Gina recommended (without coriander oil) but it honestly smells like achaar and I couldn’t stand the smell. But I am gonna try and start using that again and see if it will give me some good results.

My hair is like M and Reha, curly and dry. I wish I would find my HG shampoo and conditioner.

Re: Oil for hair.

Ok so i know this is going to sound wierd BUT has anyone ever applied desi ghee in hair? i havent either but a friend recently started applying it once every fortnight and her hair, which is also thick and curly like most of you guys, are already down to the waist and they are more glossy and soft than they originally were.and the best part is,the split ends are gone.and she has used it for a couple of months only. she apparently picked up the tip from a facebook page.

Re: Oil for hair.

^no, but I can already imagine the...err aroma it would create.

Re: Oil for hair.

oiling hairs is the most difficult thing to do on earth!!!:naraz:

Re: Oil for hair.

I bought some Extra Virgin Coconut Oil as well as a bottle of Castor Oil. Has anyone heard of that study done that proves essential oils mixed with a carrier oil (like almond or jojoba) can actually make hair grow? I’m going to try to make my own batch and see, if it can help patients with alopecia then it can def. help with minor or hormonal thinning.

Here is more info on the study and how to mix the oils:
