Oil Discovery (merged)

There has been major Oil discovery in Province Sindh alone.

Major oil discovery in Sindh

ISLAMABAD, Jan 24: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has found another major hydrocarbon reserve in Sindh, sixth in a row in the same Sinjhoro block.

Inside sources said that all tests and necessary data analysis had been processed and the well was flowing normally. A formal announcement to this effect will be made on Saturday, most probably by the federal minister for petroleum and natural resources and the Sindh chief minister.

These sources said the well would produce more than 800 barrels of condensate per day and five million cubic feet per day (MMCFD). The well flowed at 51 API gravity which shows very high quality condensate.

**The total production at Sinjhoro block in Sindh, where six wells have so far been successful over a period of six months, has now crossed 10,000 barrels of condensate per day and has further increased the prospectiveness of the area. **

Here’s another Oil discovery story in Province Sindh couple of weeks ago.

Oil, gas discovered near Mirpurkhas

ISLAMABAD, Jan 10: Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Chaudhry Noraiz Shakoor, on Friday announced the discovery of oil and gas from the Bhulan Shah well, drilled by the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) , located between Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas in Sindh.

Speaking at a news conference here, he said, **it was the seventh oil well discovered in the past nine months in the Southern Indus Basin and the eighth since March, 2001. **

He said the OGDCL was pursuing an aggressive exploration programme, thereby, steepening the graph of discoveries, adding that the Bhulan Shah structure was delineated, drilled and tested by the OGDCL in-house expertise in the Nim exploration licence area. He said that significant hydrocarbons reserves had been found at the Bhulan Shah, which is located some 24kms southeast of Hyderabad city.

The Nim Exploration Licence is a joint venture of the OGDCL and the Government Holding Private Limited with working interests of 95 per cent and five per cent, respectively, under the operatorship of the OGDCL, he said.

An exploratory well, Bhulan Shah-I, was drilled down to the depth of 2,367 metres, targeting to test the potential of the top sands of the lower Goru formation of the Cretaceous Era. On the basis of drilling and log analysis, two zones were selected for testing the well.

During initial testing in zone-1, the well had flowed 260 barrels of condensate per day and about 8 MMCFD of gas through 32"/64" choke. The well-head pressure was recorded at 1,500 PSI. This discovery, he said, would help in an annual import substitution worth $12 million.

He said that the potential of the additional zone-2 of the Goru sand member in the well, to be tested shortly, was expected to add to the hydrocarbon quantity substantially.

All the eight discoveries would produce about 9,200 barrels of oil and 66 million cubic feet of gas per day, which would contribute $157 million per annum towards import substitution, he added.

Shakoor said the OGDCL had already embarked upon efforts to tap these discoveries by developing the required infrastructure on a fast-track basis, for which preliminary survey was already under way, in addition to negotiations with gas companies.

The foreign exchange savings from the current production was worked out to be $1.42 billion per annum, he said.

Through its ongoing projects, the OGDCL was looking forward to yield an additional output of 6,500 barrels of oil, 180 MMCFD of gas and around 150 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) per day by end of June, 2003, which would further add to the import substitution worth $277 million per year, he said.

OGDCL has identified 25 exploratory prospects in its own operated concessions and is likely to drill 21 wells, including 16 exploratory wells by June, 2003, of which 12 exploratory wells have already been drilled.

**The minister said that the company’s financial health had consistently improved in recent years with the return on capital employed more than doubling from 15 per cent in 1998-99 to over 31 per cent in the year 2001-02. Gross sales revenue, which was Rs18.2 billion in 1998-99, jumped in 2001-02 to over Rs50.1 billion. **

The contribution to national exchequer which totalled Rs4.9 billion, comprising royalties Rs1.7 billion, government levies Rs2.8bn and Taxes Rs0.4bn, registered substantial increase by the year 2001-02 to total over Rs21.7bn, which included Royalties Rs4.6bn, government levies Rs8.2bn and Taxes Rs8.9bn.

OGDCL has paid to the government dividend payments totalling over Rs20.6 billion during the period 1998-99 to 2001-02 which translates to 192 per cent of the issued Share Capital.

In addition, an interim dividend at the rate of 93 per cent amounting to Rs10bn has also been paid to the government for the current year 2002-03. -APP

Hail Sindh :hula:

Somewhat, these ‘miracle’ discoveries will lower the prices of Oil.

Major oil gas discovery in Sanghar to save $14m

ISLAMABAD: A major oil and gas discovery has been made from a well, some 22 kilometres north west of Sanghar in Sindh province is expected to save the country $14 million every year through import substitution.

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) made the discovery from its exploratory Chak 7A Well No 1.

This discovery would help in import substitution to the tune of $14 million per annum, a statement from OGDCL said on Saturday.

**The company has struck eighth discoveries within ten months in the Southern Indus Basin and ninth since March 2001, each from distinctly different reservoir layers. ** :k: :k: :k: :k: :k:

Significant reserves of hydrocarbons have been found at Chak 7-A. Sinjhoro Exploration License is a Joint Venture of OGDCL 76 percent, OPI 9 percent and Government Holding Private Limited 5 percent.

Exploratory well Chak 7A-1 was drilled to the depth of 3,050 metres.

During the initial testing, the Chak 7A-1 well has flowed 800 barrels of condensate per day and about 5 MMCFD of gas through half-inch choke.

The wellhead flowing pressure was recorded as 1200 Psi. The barrel of oil equivalent of this discovery translates into 1,600 barrels per day.

Meanwhile, OGDCL has already chalked out an extensive appraisal programme to evaluate the potential of the discovered fields.

**All nine discoveries will produce about 10,000 barrels oil and 71 million cubic feet of gas per day, which corresponds to 22,240 barrels of oil equivalent.

It will contribute $195 million per annum towards import substitution. **

As a conservative estimate, OGDCL is expected to add approximately 16,840 barrels of oil and 155 MMCFD of gas per day, after the drilling of appraisal and infill wells and development of the new fields where these discoveries have been made.

OGDCL has already embarked upon tapping these discoveries by developing the required infrastructure on fast track basis, for which the preliminary survey has already been completed, besides negotiations with gas companies.

**The foreign exchange savings from the current production works out to $1.42 billion per annum. Through its ongoing projects, OGDCL is looking forward to yield additional 6,500 barrels of oil, 180 million cubic feet of gas and around 150 metric tonnes of LPG per day by the end of June 2003.

This will further add to the import substitution to the tune of $277 million per year.** —APP

This is all very nice. We have been hearing about oil discoveries in Sindh and Balochistan for a very long time (I personally remember seeing such announcements from Zia's time).

I'll like to know what is the total oil production of Pakistan? These articles mention 10k b/d which doesn't sound too much.

Are we exporting them, or refining them ourselves?

How much of this oil has reduced our dependancy on imported oil, or how much have we saved in the last one year by exploring for our own oil?

My concern is that oil is a national treasure of Pakistan. (1) It should not be wasted by corrupt ministers or bureacracies, and (2) We should not over-hype meagre oil reserves. Our bill for imported oil is a huge chunck of our imports, in total. It will be nice to reduce it to managable levels or to get into oil exports, on a net basis. Though the figures quoted above do not give much hope on that account.

You believed Zia?

Refining them, not by ourselves but with the help of Iran, Kuwait and likely Saudi Arabia.

Kuwait urged to invest in oil, gas sector

Depends on how many miracles happens in the future. :hehe:

Well, few years from now, another guy will pose a similar question to you "You believed Musharraf?" Nevermind a few years, I bet a few ppl are just itching to ask this right now. :)

One of my mammu works for PRL (Pakistan Refinery in Karachi) and he told me (a few months ago) that the oil discovered in Sindh was of a lower quality, so all of it is exported, and Pakistani refineries only use imported crude. Dunno if these new oil reserves are more of the same, and the quality pitch is just a hype.

Faisal Bhaijaan, that depends on if Musharraf said so. :)

Yeah, heard of that Refinery in Karachi.

We'll have to wait and see what these new oil reserves can do about it.

I'll keep updatin' you guys. :)

All hail Oil. The Bringer of War !!!

No seriously!! very good news. GO Go Sindh

Another Oil discovery in Sindh Province.

Oil struck in Sindh

ISLAMABAD, March 3: Orient Petroleum Inc and its joint venture partners announced on Monday the successful production testing of Naimat Basal-1 well in Khipro block in the Sindh province.

**A press release issued by the company said the well flowed 27 mmcfd of gas with 418 barrels of condensate at a fixed choke of 44/64 inch with a well head flowing pressure of 3103 psig. The calorific value of gas is 1020 btu per cubic feet. **

Besides OPI, the JV comprised BowEnergy Resources, Zaver Petroleum and Government Holdings. OPI is the operator of the Mirpur Khas and Khipro Exploration blocks and three producing fields in North including Dhurnal, Ratana and Soan.

**The discovery will have an immediate impact on country’s oil import bill and save $45 million per annum. **

Another Oil & Gas Discovery. This time in city, Hyderabad.

Oil and gas found near Hyderabad

ISLAMABAD, April 4: The Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL) Friday announced an oil and gas discovery in Hyderabad area. The company said it had drilled, tested and completed its 6th development well, Kunnar-6, 20km from the city. The well was drilled down to 1955 metres.

**On the basis of drilling and log analysis, the well has been completed by the OGDCL and on initial testing it flowed at 1,800 barrels of oil per day and about 1.33 million cubic feet per day of gas through half-inch choke. **

The work on installation of surface outfits has been started to put the well on regular production. Approximately six tons of liquefied petroleum gas and 1,300 barrels of oil per day will be produced. This will help in import substitution of $16 million per year.

**The Kunnar field has 7.2 million barrels of recoverable oil reserves. **

hey faisal one of my mamoo works there too :D

very good news :k: Sindh and Balochistan are full of natural resouces

The only bad news is that local population would be least benefitted from these treasures. Such treasures have never improved the life of local population who are/were living since centuries. I do not understand why the local population is not being given a chance to get employment rather than importing people from Punjab and other developed areas. Will people in power do something about it?

Its time to quit complaining and do something about it... the reason for interior sindh's misery is the feudals...the Sindi people need to stand up and revolt against the system..rather then just pissing on Punjabi's for all there ills...

Can you post one neutral link/source that supports Govt hiring from Punjab regardin’ this issue? Don’t make up news! :snooty:

PT,

As usual you do not believe the atrocities continuously done by Punjab with the Sindhi People. Either you are not living in Pakistan or you deliberately on misguiding spree on this forum for the long period of time. If moderators close their eyes on your all nonsense does not mean what you are telling to public is correct or there is any truth.

Here is the PROOF. Digest if you can. I can give you more examples if you want.

Union Texas discovered oil reservoirs in Badin District of Sindh. Can you name any Sindhi official working in this company? Even laborers have been imported from Punjab. GO THERE AND CONFIRM THIS. It is the duty of the Government to ensure that local population should get what their rights are. If I said local population should be involved in such ventures, what is wrong with that? Don’t give me a crape of feudal land lords and pieces of ****s now ruling Pakistan under the umbrella of military government.

FARID

Farid,

Feed your hatred on another board. I asked you one question, and you couldn't digest it. :)

<>

When that happened?

PT,

This is not hatred, I just want that local population has the first rights in employment in such ventures. Do you agree with that?
