Ever look through a brochure or online configurator and wonder how automakers come up with the names for the paint colors? They research, deliberate and focus-group the heck out of them until they’ve arrived at a catchy name like… Rape Yellow.
Well, SRT opted to go a different route when adding a new color to the Viper catalog. They revealed a new shade of what looks to us like French Racing Blue and opened it up for the public to decide. 11,000 names were submitted, but Chrysler’s performance brand has narrowed it down to three finalists.
A new Viper GTS will be on display at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas this week sporting the blue paint job and a variety of Mopar aftermarket accessories, but if you head on over to the contest webpage you can cast your own vote for the three finalists: Competition Blue, Overtaking Blue and Viral Blue. (Blue Racer, which is also the name of a snake, had originally made the cut, but apparently was replaced by Overtaking Blue for some reason.)
