Jaguar admits that revealing the F-Type convertible at the Paris Motor Show next month will be a “significant day” in the brand’s history. And we think it’ll be a significant day for us, as well. After all, the F-Type stems back to being a car that Jaguar showed off in concept form in 2000 when Ford owned the company, but that couldn’t live because of miserly sales and fear of competition with Ford-owned Aston Martin. Jag reopened the dialogue in 2008 when Tata took over, and it was given the green light in 2010.

When it arrives next year the Porsche 911-fighting all-aluminum droptop will be powered by either two versions of a supercharged V6 tuned to either 336 or 375 horsepower, or “a derivative” of the supercharged 5.0-liter V8, all running power to the rear wheels via an eight-speed transmission. A coupe version will be heading our way, as well.
